The wait is finally over! Instead of posting pics as things progressed, I decided to wait until the shell was complete. My property is situated in a sub division cul-de-sac on 1.3 acres. It already has an attached (24X30) and detached (20X34) garages, but we quickly ran out of room. After getting county and township approval (no HOA), things got underway the second week in Apr and my local builder finished this past Friday. To be honest, I was a bit surprised I was able to build a 2K sq ft shop, I was even more surprised when they said I could build it twice that size if I wanted too.

Utilities (Electric, gas, water, coax, ethernet), insulation, heat, and overall finishing off the interior will hopefully be complete by years end. Excuse my Paintbrush skills, but you get the idea of the lot/shop layout. Enjoy.

And the final shots up to this point with a bunch of stuff stuffed in it. I forgot to mention the doors are 18X12 and 12X12.

Nice looking place you have there. I like the permacolumns; looks like a Morton building almost. Keep the pics coming.

Yep, Permacolumns was a must since we plan on staying here for a good long while. Morton does have their own version though.

Reminiscent of George Carlin & "Stuff"

Looks great, enjoy the additional space.

Great looking place. I was an exchange student in Springfield, will be going back in a couple of weeks for my 20 year reunion.
Loved living there, I was out off route 4. Shame I won't be there for the Cars and Parts, used to be a great meet.

Appreciate all the compliments, it's been a dream come true. It's a bit overwhelming thinking about all I still have left to do in order to finally enjoy it. Oh well, sitting out back admiring it from a distance while enjoying a cold one, I think it'll be worth it.

I wasn't really feeling the bare porch columns, so we wrapped them in metal yesterday. I like the new look better.

Utilities next month and then onto finishing off the interior.

Picked up some interior supplies earlier last month and took vacation last week to semi-finished the interior. Painting will start tomorrow (not looking forward to that) so its moving along...slowly.

Can't say I blame you. I can't stand the heat/humidity now, but my tune may change by the time I'm ready to retire.

We started out rolling and about halfway through the first primer coat said, F-this. Picked up an airless sprayer and that made life a hell of a lot easier. The final latex coat we did back roll though.

It's been a long summer and fall (time actually flew by) but it's time to start enjoying the fruits of my labor. Electric, heat, Cat 5e, gas, and water all done for the most part. Still need to wire the man door light and lift and then its time to start moving in and building work benches.

Fired up the tube heater last night and burnt off all the manufacturing goo and she's purring like a kitten this evening. Nice and toasty.

very nice build.

silly question, in your pictures in post #16 it looks like you have drain pipe connected from the top roof gutter and it is running down to the lower roof. Why not just let the water flow out from the top down spout?

I'm not a fan of the look, but that's just how this particular seamless gutter company runs all their porch drains. I would of like to of seen it just spill over the center ridge of the porch roof myself.

The shop looks great and I really like the porch set up, that's a nice detail that helps break up the structure.

Thanks. Being that we live in a subdivision, I didn't want it to look too "barn-ish" and be an eyesore for the neighborhood. I think it turned out great and haven't received any negative feedback (at least to my face).

Holy ****, the people you find floating around on the internet! Good to see you around man.

That shop looks awesome! And I see the Cummins is still hiding in there...

Well, well, who do we have here! What's up man!

Yep, it's been sitting on jack stands for almost four years now. Kinda been busy with other things, but may put street tires back on it this winter since I'll be spending most of my time out in the shop anyway.

Thought I forgot something---here's a shot of the door operators I ended up going with. I was on the fence between these and a LiftMaster, but the belt drive and simplicity of the Zap sold me. The motor is super quite and all you can hear is the garage door hardware when opening and closing. The soft start and soft stop (both directions) is also pretty slick too.

Yes, it's really small but 1HP.

A few more progress pics and what I've been itching to have since the build began. Slowly working up the nerve to take the 1-ton up to the shutoff bar. :scared:

That's a really sharp looking shop that you have. I like the size of garage doors that you have.

Nice place. Spill some oil already, will ya?

The Porsches and coffee tables with color coordinated everything are pretty but I like a working shop.

How far from you back wall is the lift positioned? How do you like the space around the lift with the big truck on there? Thanks.

I don't blame you, I would probably be nervous too, for the first little while with a new lift. Looks good though!

Finally took it up. Wasn't bad at all really, and the jack stands really adds piece of mind when you're under it.

I measured 11' from the back wall to the base plate and snapped my chalk line. Plenty of room all the way around for me. Approximately 3' in front and around 6' from the right side wall.
