Special Notes:
Some confusion as to the year of Birth either 1897/ or 1898 ?
Many special thanks to GJ member bczygan and all his hard work in locating the Family tree history for Mr. Manning.
Due to the many links and pictures this will continue to post #2 & 3.
I have broken down 1st Generation by adding the following (1A) & (1B) which broken down come to stand for 1A= Pat. Applied for 1932-1934 and 1B = Pat numbers are listed on each pliers, 1934-1951.
2nd Generation 1953-1962 No pat. numbers listed.
3rd Generation Mordern with the blue handles around 1985.
I am sure some of have heard "The house that Ruth Built" with his first home run in yankee stadium on the very first opening day; well we can say that Mr. Manning helped to keep channellock going strong at the height of the great Depression with his home run special pliers the No. 410. Channellock nutgrip pliers.
This is what we know about the Family History His Father was Charles B "Chas" Manning 1869-1938. His Mother was Mabel Emma Havens 1876- 1926.
Howard H. Manning 1897/1898 ? (date of death 1965 buried in Fremont, Ohio); and his sister Ester Manning 1905- ?
I was amazed when GJ member bczygan told me his first patent (of many) started back in June 22, 1914 and patented on May 28th, 1918.( pat # 1,267,984); The reason this took me by surprise because that would have made him either 17 or 18 years old for his first patent.
I found all his later patents but not his early patents, not sure when he started at champion De Arment in Meadville, Pa, (Channellock) but he was their chief Engineer and his design helped them going through the great Depression.
He filed his patent on Feb. 8th, 1932 and it was granted on March 6th, 1934.
Some pictures of the No. 410 from 1932 to 1934:
Later pictures from 1st Generation (B) 1934-1951: (Pat numbers on the pliers).
Next picture 2nd Generation No patent Numbers just the name 1953-1963.
More information to follow on post #2
