i went through this dilemma a couple years ago. we were replacing a lot of old trim work in our house, and adding some crown molding in places. i was getting really tired of cutting trim with a manual miter box/hand saw.
i looked at the big box stores, compared prices, and literally dicked around for a year before the wife got pissed off enough to "make" me decide.
since i already had a 10" table saw, and several newish blades, i decided to get a 10" compound slider, i eventually picked up a kobalt from lowes.
it's done everything ive needed it to, including cutting the 4 1/4" crown molding.
i picked up an inexpensive stand on clearance at menards.
the saw and stand are light enough i can get them up the basement stairs if i have a lot of cuts to make outside, and dont want to be running up ad down the stairs..
