I'm sure everyone is aware of PhotoBuckets new demands for uses that link to third party websites. I used them for many years. And was forced to pay a modest fee because my pictures went well beyond the bandwitch allowance from the beginning.. Not a problem,, But WOW $400.00 NO WAY. I cannot imagine them surviving this. Where does one go from here. Do you start using a new hosting sight, If so what's the best one. Would they go the route of PhotoBucket once they have enough followers? Or simply download them on the GarageJournal? How does one update the frozen links to pictures? Is there any kind of program that would make it easier than one at a time?

While the beginning of the thread, addresses alternative places to host images. the end of the thread provides a totally different approach, browser extension add-ons.

If you use Firefox or Chrome, installing the following add-ons will allow you to see the Photobucket images without the original posters having to buy Photobucket's service or having to go back to edit the images they previously posted.

Chrome: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/photobucket-fixer/ogipgokcopooepeipngiikdkpmcpkaon
Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/photobucket-fixer/

I am definitely not computer savvy and don't understand what add on means. How it works or how to install it. Though I'm sure some young person working at home can come up with a solution to get around PhotoBucket's block to links to third party posting. But would that be leagal? Or would PhotoBucket simply make a change to make this add on useless..

All things said, what is the simplest and best way to post pictures in the future? And what could be done easily to have my old pictures reappear? Of course with paying their ransom..

If you can post on a forum, you can figure out a browser add on (extension).

1. Install Firefox or Chrome. Please don't tell me you still use Internet Explorer...
2. Click on the link above for the browser you installed.
3. Enable that add on (FF) or extension (Chrome).
4. Restart your browser.
5. Enjoy the Photobucket pics you can now see.
6. Now that you now how to install add ons/extensions, add more like AdBlock and be amazed. Google "firefox best add ons" or "chrome best extensions" and start researching.

Why not just upload the pictures to the forum. There is nothing more frustrating than looking at an old thread and the pictures are gone, that wouldn't have happened if they were uploaded to the forum.

Not everyone uses Chrome or Firefox, so there isn't a fix for some of us. I was on another forum today that had a thread where the PhotoBucket pictures didn't show.

Because it *****? It makes tiny little thumbnails at the bottom of the post and you can't provide text next to each photo. It makes reading build threads way shittier.

I started using https://postimages.org/

I am forever in your debt for this "cure" for Photobucket. Thank you.

I added the extension, and continued to see the dreaded "Please upgrade your account....". I had to clear out all my history on Google, and I can now see photos I contributed to threads on forums that were stored in Photobucket. May Karma focus its attention on the owners of Photobucket....

I am willing to bet that those photobucket add ons will get broken by something photobucket does. So I wouldn't think this is the last of it. I can remember when I had a Palm phone and it allowed me to link directly to itunes, Apple would break it, Palm would get around it, Apple would break it, then Apple finally figured a way to stop them.

I'm with Strouty.

The patch is a short term fix... a good one... but in time Photobucket will find out their block isn't working and will rip off the patch in one quick jerk.

Photo bucket has gone to hell with so many ads and pop ups. I eventually got rid of it and found something else. I now use Postimg.org . It works very well. Let's you resize your photos easily. No spamming, no pop ups, and its free and simple to use. Try it out. It's a very very good and simplistic plus the photos all work on GJ.

Two Photobucket thread stickies? I thought some of you might find this interesting.. from the other thread.

Yes, what Photobucket did hurt us here on The Garage Journal and it broke a lot of useful threads across the internet.

But it didn't have to.

Did you know there is software, such as XenForo, that a forum, such as The Garage Journal, could have used to hold onto externally-hosted images that are in posts and automatically start serving them itself in case the original source goes away?

I'm not a computer guy.. I learned about this by accident.

I deleted all the photos on my Photobucket account last Sunday. I did this because I paid an annual rate, and it was about to expire. I didn't like what Photobucket did to it's paying customers, and I don't want them to have my photo's.

So after I deleted all my photo's I went back and looked at various threads I created, here on The Garage Journal, and on other sites. It was no surprise that my build thread here on The Garage Journal was decimated, we've all seen this happen.

What was a surprise:

Back in March 2011 I started a build thread for a '65 C-10 pickup, on another free website. All the photo's are linked via Photobucket.

I look at that thread today, it didn't change at all even though my Photobucket account photo's are all gone. Here is that thread: Lakeroadsters' Build Thread: '65 SWB Step

Just wanted to share this with everybody here, it was an eye opening experience for me.
