Started the shop at the beginning of October. Have some time to post some pics.
Shop is 21 x 24 with a 21 x 16 room under which is going to be an art studio/company office.
Would of liked bigger and higher but this is the maximum footprint i could build without going the variance route and as these are ocean view properties my neighbors wouldn't be happy if i built bigger or higher.

First pics. are milling some 4" X 13" Douglas Fir slabs for my future workbench and the before excavation pic.

Neat stuff. The question of how to build a two story garage comes up around here every so often but there haven't been that many examples.

Very interesting build. As Stuart said, this is kind of exotic for a residential garage. Please feel free to post tons of pictures, explanations and costs, I know I would find it fascinating.

Did you shop the icf floo vs spancrete or slab on steel? I’m looking at building a similar garage, and curious about the costs...

I’m curious to floor cost opposed to a hollow core precast floor.

Subscribed for sheer curiosity. ICF is new tech as far as the folks around here are concerned, and any facts I can bust over an inspector's noggin will be great. :)

About 20 years ago, my dad built a garage at his place with a suspended slab. Its built into the hillside with 4 car underneath and open air pavilion on top. The slab is rated to park a vehicle on and you can easily fit 5 up there. They used 8" hollow core planks with a topping coat. They span roughly 24 feet deep.

This looks like a much better system with the deep 'T' shape and poured walls. It looks like it'll be tied together better.

Glad to see some interest in my build. Unfortunately i have very few pics. of the project as i have been working out of town. In the morning I will take some pics. of the framing stage we are at now.And my wife has been taking some pics. when i havn't been here so will try to get those transferred. Here is the one picture i took last weekend from the garage at sunrise. The original plan had a 2' X 6' window above the workbench to let light in but to high to look out of. After we poured the slab last week and i realized the view the shop had we framed for a 4' X 6' window above the bench.

The art studio is going to double as a guest suite with a fold down Murphy bed. I am putting in a full bathroom with high toilet with senso wash seat, grab bars, fold down seat in the shower. The accessible stuff is to accommodate my handicapped brother who i bring up for a visit a couple times a year. My question for you is: Has anyone come across a mechanism for a remote control Murphy bed. Preferably queen size. As i would like to make it easy for my brother to lower and raise the bed as i plan on having a flat screen TV under the bed of course meaning its on the wall when the bed is up. I know he won't be able to watch TV from bed. But it's a small space and this approach seems to be the best use of space. Without the TV we could lower the bed when he's here and raise when he leaves but i think the TV would be nice for him if he wants to sit and watch. Meaning the bed has to be automatic.
Going to be installing radiant tubing in the studio tomorrow morning I will make sure to post some pics.
