I’m looking to getting my into powder coating. What is the better powder coat gun to purchase? The harbor freight or the entry level Eastwood? Would mostly be doing smaller things.

For small stuff either will work but they are both cheap and temperamental with voltage regulation

They are both pretty similar, I've had a Harbor Freight gun and it works... relatively well just not efficient, waste a lot of powder. Used it for a long time, small issues with it, the ground clip is small and weak. I like the trigger pedal. Pretty much hated the air regulator and trigger setup for that. Upgraded to a pro gun after that. SO much better but at 10 times the cost.

Where do you get your powders? I’ve heard good things about the Eastwood powders

Tha Eastwood dual voltage is quite a bit more capable of a gun than the hf is. I still use mine from time to time on base coats.

Another vote for the Eastwood guns........I have used both Eastwood guns extensively.

Agree powder quality is important I have had good results with Eastwood and Caswell.

Oh and I had good luck with the eastwood powders until recently. I think I got a bad batch of clear from them and almost wore myself out troubleshooting until I realized it. I'm sticking with prismatic powder for a while. they have always cured really well for me.

I generally get Prismatic, but Columbia Coatings, Powder Buy the pound and a few others MIT etc work well.

I have had two harbor freight powder guns, they aren’t the best but for small parts they work good. My complaints are that they crack easily where the powder cup screws on and that they are hard to clean. I typically buy from powderbuythepound and have no complaints about them.

Pretty much everything you buy from Eastwood can be purchased from the original manufacturer 40-60% cheaper. The only advantage is one-stop shopping but you pay a premium for it.

You get what you pay for with guns.

NICIndustries.com / Prismatic has been treating me right for many, many years. It's rare I shop elsewhere.

Just a couple hours ago I was thinking how nice it would be to be able to powder coat some parts on my Craftsman Table Saw. I know the paint I used wont hold up long at all.
