In the process of rebuilding my floor jack of 14 years. I'm only going to replace the inner ram seal. Disassembled it tonight and found no contamination, but the ram seal is hard and is a 2 peice type. Going to call Hiball's contact and order the parts.

You may want to replace the rest of the soft parts as well - having to take it apart twice is no fun.

Yep... Also would like to add, you can easily replace that crappy Oem seal with a Poly Ucup very easily, either remove the ridge at the base on the Ram, or modify the OEM base into a washer to accept the flat side of the ucup.

I would like to go with a poly Ucup. The picture is the base of the ram where it will be installed. It had a snap ring to hold it in place. Do you think it needs modified? The plastic heel and cap seals look good but the orings seem hard and want to replace. You mentioned a sealant but don't recall which type. Would you refresh my memory?

There is a very thin ledge at the base, either remove it and use the correct sized ucup or modify the base of the Oem seal to accept the ucup. In regards to sealant, you won't require any as this jack utilizes orings on both ends of the reservoir, thus no metal to metal.

I see the ledge on the ram now that I zoomed in. Thanks for your help.

They are awesome jacks for sure. My father has one and I love it, but recently I have needed a low profile to get under a different vehicle, and his Snapon jack has that elongated lower profile for that. I think if I needed another one, it would be closer to NLE 7916440. Shoot, that might be my next one anyhow, its just a handy feature.

Ram ready for the poly U cup. It is nice to have a buddy with a lathe.

Good morning. I have what I think is a 2000's era 791-6420 single pump jack that looks very similar to the one in this thread. It started leaking so I've read as much info as I can find on this forum about these jacks. There is not a lot of info on the "regular" web so thank you for what people have posted.

As for the easy fix, a new one from Napa is currently $274. Since our amazing Craftsman store at Lakeline Mall in Austin is long gone, I have started looking around at Harbor Freight. The closest replacement is on sale for $190, SKU 56641. I like that I can get it in black, but I don't like how the rubber pad does not cover the entire lifting surface. I scoured the internet and didn't find anything that I like in the $300 Napa price range with similar specs.

So I'm planning to take mine apart and see if I can easily fix it. It appears I need a 1 3/8" socket for the nuts on the side and per this post a two inch socket for the tank. Any chance most or all the pumps are two inch? I'm planning to order some Craftsman USA V sockets on eBay today. Are there any other out of the ordinary tools that I might need? I do have snap ring pliers.

Lastly, the rebuild kit. Using the serial number on the jack, will I be able to buy the exact kit and/or individual parts? I don't see an option to search by serial number on Lazzar's site ~ www.hcrcnow.com. Unless someone has a better source, I plan to call them Monday. I found a local seal / gasket supply house, but have not set foot inside there yet.

HCRC has a universal kit listed at $69, no longer in production, non-returnable. That kit probably has $5 worth of parts in it, of which you probably only need $2 worth. Do yourself a favor - take apart the hydraulics and get a look at the seals, then decide what you need. Then either take the seals to your local place or call (as per Hiball's signature) Hydraulic Parts Supply at 620-594-2247.

That looks like a decent jack and it's nice and clean - HCRC website says it was made by Sunex; I definitely would not give up on it. Regarding the 1 3/8" socket - my 12" adjustable will open up just slightly over that; you may not need to buy a socket (and a pipe wrench will definitely do it). For the tank nut, you could use a pipe wrench and cheater bar. Basic tools pretty much get the job done, I don't think I've ever needed anything "special".

Where is it leaking from?

I think it is leaking from here but slowly. It took 20 pumps to reach 12” yesterday. Then I topped off the tank and it took 10ish to get to 13”. So I’m thinking I have issues inside and out.

So in checking where the leak was today, I pumped it back up again for grins. It went all the way up. So for $5.88 plus tax I’m good until I buy or borrow a 1 3/8” socket or wrench. I have an adjustable big enough, but that might take six beers to remove with the frame very much in the way. I am going to take your advice on the pipe wrench for the tank cap. Thanks for the response.

I purchased my seal kit from Hydraulic Parts Supply at 620-594-2247 their in Sawyer Ks. Their good folks to work with. I bought a kit, but the tank seal was not correct. I sent them my tank seal and they matched it up and sent me the correct one. It is pretty easy to reseal the jack I would take several pictures so you can refer too. Be careful when removing the jack from the frame, the lift leg is heavy and could slam down on your fingers.
