Milwaukee reliability

I have the Milwaukee fuel 1/2 m2763, I’ve had it about a year and a half, it’s been in for warranty more times than I can remember. I have 4 other m18 tools, and 3 m12 tools. All are fuel, but this 1/2 has really disssapointed me. It is used on cars daily, am I expecting to much of it?

Lately it has been losing power again, wouldn’t take off a bolt my 3/8 air zipped off just fine. It sort of just vibrates uncontrollably when it gets to a bolt it won’t grt off. It’ll be the 5th time now I’ve sent it in for some reason, I’m honestly just annoyed. It’s having a hard time even removing lug nuts, all my batteries are fine I know that bc al my other tools work great.

i was using my m12 drill and drive unit and both got pretty hot the drill started flashing a losing power. this was after 30 min of hard use and switching tools back and forth while drilling 4 holes in .5in steel plate. I was not impressed.

For the money charged for that tool , I would be contacting Milwaukee customer service. Provide them with a link to this thread.

I used mine almost everyday for about a year and a half with no issues still hit as hard as the day I got it, I have the 2767 now and I've been using that one for going on 6 months now and no issues. I do take really good care of mine though.

It's one of their most popular tools and I've never heard of anyone having this issue.. you either have the worst luck possible or maybe someone's dropping it when you aren't around lol. Idk

I think you've got a lemon my friend. I had my first 2763 for 3 years when it started to lose power, opened it up to find steel shot inside of it (pretty common where I work). It still works, just has a little less power. I still replaced it with a new one, I've had it for a year now.

I counted the other day, I've got 16 batteries, and 24 cordless milwaukee tools all of the m18 or m12 variety. So I'd have to say I've got SOME milwaukee experience.
I can see your frustration though. I'd like to think a completely new unit might solve your problem, of the 4 times its been sent in have they replaced it? I've heard great things about their warranty before but I've never hand to use it myself. I'm interested to see where this ends up.

I have the same tool and have never had an issue with it or heard of anyone on here complaining about it either. If you voice your frustration to Milwaukee about the persistent problems with yours they may offer you something, maybe a new unit instead of just repairing yours again. If they won't replace it let them fix it and when you get it back sell it and upgrade to the new 1400 ft. lb. Model.

i have the same tool, used it for 2 years no issues. i got the mid torque for daily use and i only bring out the big boy when i have to

I use the Milwaukee 7/16 hex drive utility version of the high torque 1/2". I have 2 at my current job, one being used at my last. The ones I use now get used daily, and not one issue with any of them.. :thumbup:

havent had an issue with any tool they make cept for the cordless hammer drill. chuck wobbles to much for my liking.

It feels like it’s hitting hard, but the thing just vibrates like crazy, I’ve often wondered if maybe using torque sticks on it to install wheels is hurting it somehow? I’ve thought about getting the new 2767, but it’d be a waste. I have a 2235timax and full on shop air at work. I’d like to just keep the 2763 because it really does have enough power for 99% of things

THAT IS YOUR PROBLEM. Very high powered impacts, and the 2763 is one, will put a torque stick into internal vibration. Torque sticks are build for impacts that put out a max of about 400 ft-lb. An I-R 231 is just about perfect for them and that's what I use with torque sticks. My Aircat 1250K does the same thing. Try using it on the middle power position and see what happens. Torque sticks are springs and what causes them to limit torque is excess power being converted into heat as the spring twists and untwists. If the power to too excessive the spring is overpowered and goes into internal vibration.

All my milwaukee tools have outlasted the battery packs except my first 2763-20 took off one bolt and died(just disco lights flashing) Home Depot gave me another one thats been great maybe a year

Guessing your a professional mechanic? Not sure how they handle warranty for commercial (if that matters?) but all of my warranty claims (mailed in) were handled by getting a replacement tool either brand new or close to it, YMMV

My fairly new M12 3/8" ratchet is acting wonky. Its the anvil. I took it apart, cleaned, and lubed and that seemed to help a little but it is still a little too hard to switch rotation. Its too new to be having problems,but still my favorite tool.

lol the m12 was not designed to drill through 1/2 inch steel plate. use the correct tool for the application. like a m18 fuel drill or a drill press.

That's what I was going to say when I read that post. The fact that it made it through 4 of them and was just a little 'hot' speaks well for the tool.

I agree that the impact damage could be caused by torque sticks. I wonder if that is why Eric O's broke so quickly. I know you have to hurry on flat rate. What if you bought two relatively cheap torque wrenches and just kept one set on ~80 for passenger cars and one on ~140 for trucks?

Most people have had great luck with the Milwaukee stuff. I suspect the people who are complaining either got a lemon (happens with any manufacturer) or they are doing something the tool wasn't designed to do.

Eric has said numerous times his Milwaukee tools are all broken and none made it even one year. I think the HF cordless tools he has now are nearly a year old under the same usage...

We have had mixed results in our shop. Some guys have good luck with them while others do not (and no torque stick usage)

I wouldn't consider the Milwaukee cordless impacts a hours on end use automotive tool. I own five of them. If you have air use that first and save the Milwaukee. For torque sticks I would use a old school CP 734 or IR 231.

A daily use impact for automotive is maybe a IR or Snap-on. For wood or the trades any good brand will work from Hilti on down

The IR cordless tools are great. Well worth the extra money over the Milwaukee.

I also torque them afterward with my snap on torque wrench, just use them not to damage lugs. I think the torque stick might damage it because it hits a lot faster than my airs. Now it just won’t take anything off tho and vibrates like crazy. Even when not using a torque stick

I’m thinking about getting the Milwaukee fixed then taking it home. I don’t think it’s up to daily use.

Idk when I worked on heavy equipment almost half the guys used the 2763 it's so much more convenient than starting up the compressor. We used them everyday in the heat cold and dirt, most lugs were torqued to 450ft/lb min so it's not like they weren't being used hard either. I really think you just have a lemon, I'd email Milwaukee and explain the situation and ask for a replacement

I'm the one that provided Eric O. with his Milwaukee tools. Eric uses an impact in a particular fashion on the rusty junk he works on which is he continuously switches between tighten and loosen. He does this with his air tools too but on them this doesn't matter as there isn't any current flowing through the tool's switches. With electric that's going to be a problem.

What's upset me about Eric is that I told him to simply send the tools I gave him to me and I'll send them to Milwaukee for repair or replacement. I've been to Eric's shop and the damn guy works ACROSS THE STREET (50 yards maximum) from a U. S. Post Office. How frickin' tough can it be to put the **** into a $13 flat rate box and send it to me. Yet he never does that. If he's too busy to do this just send Vanessa across the street to pick up a box, she picks up the mail everyday from the Post Office anyway, print off a label and take it back across the street and mail the damn thing to me. Eric is my friend but there are times he completely frustrates me.

That makes sense Dennis thanks for explaining. It does always make me chuckle when he complains about them dying but won’t get them warrantied. I can see how his changing direction trick would cause problems. I haven’t noticed if he is doing that with the HF ones.

Instead of wasting two hours every Wednesday to have a BS session, I wish he'd use that time to upload/make videos.

Very true. I miss his videos. He's the most entertaining of the bunch. You can tell since Josh and Hannah left his volume has dropped way down. I think his best videos were the long Saturday projects where he basically turned the camera on to keep from feeling lonely.

My 2763 has been in once for service and barely used. I bought a 2767 to replace it and it didn't work right out of the box. Created a service slip and before I got to send it in I threw a battery on it out of curiosity and it worked!

Well, a handful of times... then back to dead.

The 2763 needs a new forward/reverse switch, the detent is gone. I think they broke that when they serviced it.

M12 jigsaw - broke, the switch on the blower acts funny (you hit it and the blower starts and immediately stops, then you have to wait and when you hit it again it works fine.).

I love them when they work, but they have been problematic for me. Most other people have far better luck!

Switches on a lot of Milwaukee cordless are really crummy I have one impact driver there is like no positive center detent accidently hit the switch and it will move out of position I seen a YouTuber video one fellow took the switch out and filed it to get a better detent.

My little blower 3 position switch its acting a bit funny lately, hard to move it into HI sometime.

Never had a problem so far with any impact wrenches (I also have a 2763 doesn't get constant use) but my 2655 I have worked really hard. The same with the M12 2454.

That about all I can think of at the moment. :dunno:

Ya'll talking about Eric the car guy? If so he mentioned the reason the vids have slown downa crawl, has to do with YouTubes monetary policy they just changed.
