As first reported on the 2018 Garage Sale thread, I found this Hartford Spring & Axle Company buggy wrench this morning at the flea market. As their name implies, Hartford Spring & Axle Company made parts for buggies and wagons in the latter part of the 19th century. They were sued by Goodyear & Ives in 1867 for patent infringement on a wheel hub, link here for further reading, and in 1881 they were renting their factory in Norfolk (water-wheel powered), link here, but a year later they were running classified ads seeking machinists and tool makers, link here, and they were active throughout the 1880's in partnerships with buggy companies and stores like Belknap Hardware selling buggies. A Hartford Spring & Axle wrench was part of a Wrenching News Auction in 2015, wrench #80, linked here.
