So we just broke ground last week on our new house on the golf course... aka it’s crunch time!

I got a lighting layout done by the master himself, but am sure I’ll have some questions along the way.

First on the list - so I’m going with the liftmaster 8500w opener, which sits next to the garage door instead of in the middle of the ceiling. My question is will I want to ad a light to the normal spot that turns on when I pull into the garage? It’s nice to have a little light in the garage when the door opens.

You just had to throw in that your house is on the golf course. Big deal, mine is next to a landfill. I get to shoot rats.

Oh.. the 8500 does come with a remote controlled light that you can place wherever you put an outlet. The light has about a 5' or 6' cord.

As already stated, the 8500 has a light kit with it. It wirelessly communicates with the opener. I read in the manual that you can add extra light kits if you see the need.

Wonder if I can hard wire it so I don’t have a 6’ cord sitting up there... I’m sure it’s possible.

Definately an oversight if it can’t be. I’ll figure something out.

You could use a recessed outlet box and may be place the light over it. Excess cord is wrapped inside the base. My light has about 6 inches of cord showing to the ceiling outlet. The light is not made to be hardwired, so you'd need to cut the cord to connect.

That was my initial thought - recessed box that is covered by the light. Or, like you said just put an outlet above the ceiling and cut the plug and wire it through the ceiling, add new plug once it’s through and plug it in

Thanks again!!

Can’t wait to post up the ‘after’ photos.

Basement is being poured this week... have a solid 3.5 months wait unfortunately.

Well here is an update - house is finished - we move in tomorrow!

Garage turned out way better than expected. Can’t believe how much light I have in my garage for just under $400... couldn’t ask for anything more!

Here is a quick pic I snapped with my phone. Once we get settled in I will post better pics.

I think I would rather have your place so I could shoot rats. Unless they let you play golf at that course with a shotgun. Ya, then I might play golf.
