Sometime before Christmas I was lurking on this forum for lighting ideas to turn one bay of a 3-bay garage into a bay for my part-time car detailing business. I want bright even light to replace my flickering fluorescent tubes. Platonic Solid came to the rescue with a design (with a full list of links to the proper fixtures, etc) that is over the top, which is exactly what I was looking for. Attached are the before, P.S.'s design in DIAlux and after. I had a vision in my brain, and Platonic Solid deserves a serious "attaboy"!

I should add a couple of points. Although the bay will be used more for rinseless washes and polishing, the lights on the sides (per P. Solid) are sealed behing .030" polycarbonate and the panel frames are well caulked in with a couple of holes in the bottoms of the frames to allow any water that MIGHT get in to escape. There are two circuits, one for the walls and one for the ceiling. Both circuits are on dimmers.

You sir are getting my first post. This is absolutely amazing. Out of the hundreds of layouts that Platonic Solid has completed, I have only seen a few people post back after following his design.

Your detailing bay looks absolutely amazing, good job.

I've been lurking here for over a year trying to decide on light layouts.. I found a design similar to my garage and purchased them today.

Again, excellent work on the bay.

Question, was the drain installed prior to the build?

Flamario, we followed his design exactly. Thanks for the comment.

YES, but what happened to the stairstepper?

Thanks for following through with photos. So few do. I have waded through the threads, read the posters other posts, and compared to similar layouts. I have googled lots of unfamiliar terms and scoured recommended vendors sites. I have tried to wrap my head around an unfamiliar topic.

It would have been easier and quicker with "after" photos.

So, how does it look with an actual car? I bluffed my way into a couple of dealership make ready areas as part of my "what do I want and like?" research. ( spoiler alert: dealerships don't put much thought into back office or work lighting.)

The floor still has two days until you are supposed to drive on it. I will post on the weekend. I had a car in there before the epoxy coating. It was great for everything but seeing swirls. Need a point source light, such as swirl finder light which I have.

That's just stunning Olariu! It's been a pleasure working with you on this one-of-a-kind experimental lighting project. I can't thank you enough for returning to post the finished results. To keep all info in one thread, here's the original concept post:

Final Version:

Floor reflectance changed to 35% as it will be finished.
All fixtures 5000 Lumen LED edge lit flat panels on 2 dimmers = 1 for ceiling lights / 1 for wall lights.

I look forward to hearing your input on functionality of the space and whether you find yourself using the dimming function.
