Good evening. One of our members, Gregaz, had a great idea about having a trading platform. Some members previously mentioned recycling less desirable tools, sometimes by good companies like Plomb or Fleet when they can not sell it. Even though I do not know how to make a platform, I have an idea that might work.
We can create a section in GJ where members could post what they have for trade or give away. This could be divided by states for convenience. We could set some rules about which tools could be listed (ex. Limit to US and certain outside manufacturers, limit damage amount, etc).
We could include not only tools, but may be parts. For example if somebody has a vintage Snap On, Proto, MAC or any other box beyond repairable condition (we all see those rust piles sometimes on CL, drawer slides or handles or some other parts still could be used for other member projects.)
Creation of this list would allow us to achieve the following:
1. Avoid hassles of selling;
2. Avoid destroying nice pieces of history which we can not get rid of and do not desire;
3. Get some members to collect and preserve tools which they otherwise would not consider due to interest, financial limitations, etc;
4. Help the environment by avoiding contaminants from recycling and manufacturing tools from the same materials.
We could ask people to respond only via PM.
Only members with more than some amount of posts should be allowed to participate to avoid explosion of freebie lovers not contributing to GJ.
There also could be a limit in amount of time ad will sit if not cancelled by owner (let's say 3months) to save GJ internet space...
Please contribute your thoughts - may be it's something viable here. If we get it right and members want it, I think there is a future in this idea... May be moderators of this site would consider this addition if we make it right...
