I posted on here a couple of months ago when I started re-organizing my garage at my old house...correct, my OLD house. We started looking for a new home shortly after I started re-organizing that garage. Now my wife and I are at our new house now with a new garage to organize. I need to add some receptacles on each wall. There is only 1 right now in the entire garage; besides the receptacle for the garage door opener. I also need to add lights; hoping to purchase from Home Depot or Lowe’s. I will post more pictures as the garage evolves but here are a few for now of what it looked like when we got the keys on Monday 4/23.

Here are a few pictures of me moved in. Still missing my lawn equipment but I may add a little shed to hold all of it in the back yard. I will be adding more lights and receptacles soon.

Yesterday was my birthday and my wife bought me a bike storage system. So now I’ve got the bike up and out of the way. With the open rafters, I can almost get the bike completely out of the way. I like it.

Haha, yes sir it is. That's the fridge from our old house. The new house came with a fridge and it's a counter-depth. That one there isn't and would stick out awkwardly. So, its been re-purposed as my garage fridge!

It should be ready to go with beer soon.

It’s a been a little while since I last posted. We sold our other house and I’ve been busy moving furniture around and getting settled in. I am finally getting around to working in the garage.

Been moving some stuff around and trying to figure out what works best. Think I finally have a layout that works for me.

I installed 2 20A circuits. One for the left side of the garage and one for the right side. Each have 5 outlets. I put the outlets in the left side and back side of the garage at 42” high. I plan to install some cabinets and a worktop down the entire length of the back wall at 36” high and 32” deep so my miter saw will fit nicely in it. The outlets on the right side I put at 50” high so that they are 6” above my workbench.

I still need to install a dedicated 50A for my welding machine but for now I think the next step is lights so that I can work later into the night installing cabinets and walls in the near future.

I bought and installed some lights today. LED King 8’ tubes. These were reasonably priced and fulfill what I wanted. I like that there’s no shadow under the ladder!

I am going to start putting walls up soon. I was thinking about using some 8"OC or 4"OC plywood board because that will give the walls some texture. The one concern I have is getting the holes cut for the electrical outlets. Are there some tips and tricks to making sure that you get them matched right so that everything is even? I tried my best to get the outlets at 42" from the concrete but they may be off 1/8" or so.

Are you going to add any insulation to your garage, or is it needed in Texas? :headscrat

So far looking really good!

I wasn't going to. I don't think there is because it's not going to be climate controlled. But then again, it might be the smart thing to do now if I ever wanted to put an AC unit in there...

Thank you sir! It's definitely becoming a lot easier to work in there since the outlets and lighting have been added.

Adding insulation will help moderate temp swings even in a non-conditioned space. It's a good idea even if you don't expect to heat or cool the space.

But Texas? I'd be sure to seal and insulate very carefully, and add a minisplit. Ain't nobody got time to sweat in that heat!

I may look into doing it then.

Those LED's look great, but I did not see anything like them on the King LED web site. Mostly grow light modules. Can you share the source?

Great. Thanks very much. Can't have too many sources...unless you have trouble making decisions....like me. ;)

Looking great so far, keep up the good work. Insulation depends on climate, I did not insulate my shop because it rarely drops below freezing and rarely gets over 80 here on the Oregon coast. However, I've been to TX, and I probably would insulate there just to help with the temp swings, especially to the higher end.

Yeah I'm thinking I might just go ahead and do it. Need to check on pricing first.

Late night at The Barking Dog Garage. Been working 6-12’s and finally got some time to get some plywood. I decided not to insulate the walls. I’ll never do any climate control to this area. Here’s what I got so far.

I’m not sure. I think the bare looks good but painting it white would make it really bright in here. I’ll leave it bare for now.

Got all the plywood that I had put up. Got all my stuff somewhat organized.

Dark walls almost gone combined with your new LED lights  Quite an improvement.

Yes sir! It makes working in here a whole lot more enjoyable.

Garage turned out great. I really like the plywood walls. I know white walls is better for lighting but something about raw plywood.

Thanks Bret. Yeah, I agree. I’m going to leave it for now. My focus is going to be getting/building cabinets to store/hide some of this stuff.

Thinking about building a large closet on the back right hand side of the garage for the welding machine, pressure washer, car ramps, and shop vacuum.

The difference the plywood made versus the felt paper is incredible. It seems to have edded light and made a more enjoyable look to the garage. Looking really good

Lighting upgrade and the plywood looks excellent mate! Also love the whiteboard in front of the bench, might have to steal that one!

Yes sir! A whole lot better. Hoping to start getting some storage cabinets and closets in here soon. Going to incorporate a miter saw station into the cabinets like Jay Bates on YouTube. The whiteboard is nice for drawing stuff or writing information down. At my last house, I just wrote stuff on the workbench. It's got all sorts of information to rebuild a 1964 F100. Haha.

It really does. I'll post pictures of before vs after here in a minute.

The walls and lights make a huge difference, but where are the pictures of the 1964 f100?

Here they are. It was my father in laws. He had bought it and drove it for a couple years before parking it in the early 80’s when he couldn’t figure out what was wrong with it. Many people tried to get it going but failed. I got a hold of it in 2016 when they were moving and start fiddling with it. Got it running and gave it back to him right before we moved in May 2018.
