I'm sure this has been covered here before, probably multiple times...so if someone has a link to a thread with good info in it, I'm all ears...

I'm looking for a way to mount and store my small plastic bins I use for my hardware. I've seen the floor stand racks at Harbor Freight and other places but they are just a bit to wiggly for my taste and they have the spots for larger bins on the bottom. I need more space for the smaller bins...and none for the larger ones.

I found these louvered panels from Triton and am curious if anyone has first hand experience with them?

I have an area on a wall that these look like they'd be perfect for but just want to make sure they are strong and will hold up to the weight of the bins (and that the bins will hold up to hanging as well).

For reference, this was my old system...

And now I have all of these bags on the bottom shelf and a box full of the small blue bins...that I need to find a home for.

I used those bins from the HF sets and except for the small stuff, the littler red ones are too small. I have swapped some of them out with more blue ones. I created some shelving under the workbench for them. They stay behind closed doors to help keep the dirt out yet, they are easily removed and can be taken wherever or st on the bench during a project.

I used these bins which come with their own mounting rails so you can mount them to whatever surface you want. Northern Tool handles them. I like my setup because everything can be seen easily and the doors can be closed to hide them. I have added more bins since this photo was taken. Since the bins don't actually sit on each other, any one of them can be removed from the rack and taken to where you are working.

I have a similiar system to the Triton bins that I got from Amazon/NT about 6 months ago: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LX0ABFV/?tag=atomicindus08-20

I have only mounted one of them and I use it on a roll around cart. It holds my "working" fasteners like 1 5/8, 2", 2 1/2" and 3" wood structural screws, washers and other small parts.

It works great for me, but there is no way I'd trust it to hold a full bin of 3/8" or 3/8"+ sized fasteners. Remember that everything is cantilevered off a small piece of plastic on one end of the plastic bin.

My "real" fasteners (1/4" through 7/8") go into something that looks almost exactly like this:

I got this from one of my neighbors over 20 years ago. If I had to buy one today, it would probably hundreds of $$.

Thanks, I'll check your thread out.

I'm a bit space limited where I want to put these so no room for a cabinet to put them in (even as much as I'd like to). Thanks...

Find the weight ratings for the panels first (I know akro-mills rates theirs), and then figure out the weight of all the fasteners... Also consider the load you will be putting on the wall and how well the wall is braced...

Did you see this thread?

https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=289281

That might give you some alternate ideas...

I have the same concerns about the weight of these bins and and the plastic tabs... The wall is stout as long as I can get to the studs.

And thanks for the link to that thread...I'll be back to check in here in a couple of days. lol...

I would LOVE to have a set of steel bins like that, have missed out on a couple at auctions over the years which is the only way I'd ever be able to afford enough of them to hold my stuff. Thanks....

That is a very cool idea... I need to figure out what I am going to do for benches and see if I can work an idea like that in.

I have three of those exact same panels loaded with bins. They'll take all the weight you can throw at them. The key is mounting them securely. If you only attach the outside four corners and you hang a bunch on heavy bins in the center they might flex outwards. But if you're attaching to say a exterior wall and install the screws at 16" centers top and bottom, it'll be fine.

Thanks, that is good to know.

How do the plastic bins hold up (mainly the tabs on the back) once weight of fasteners is added?

I know my 7/16s and 1/2" bins get pretty heavy but that is when they are filled way up. Might just need to split those up into a few extra bins instead of stuffing all of them into one.

I really wish I hadn't seen the thread with all of the individual storage cases in the custom built cabinets... I really don't have time for that project right now. :D

All my bins I believe are Acro's (however that spealed) and no issues. I have the smaller bins loaded with hardware and the 12" x 12" ones loaded with some fairly heavy stuff and haven't had any of them break. So far, so good

I bought all of the bins from a Home Depot that was moving. I thought I got a great deal until they told me it included all of the hardware. I sold and gave away tons, but still have a few lifetimes of some stuff.

Found this in the trash at work. Rehab, paint a build a rolling platform for it and it moves around the garage nicely.

I was looking for storage for my hardware for my 1929... found that Durham Mfg makes some nice stuff at a reasonable price, can get them from zoro tools online all day.

For the storage of my 1929 hardware, most of it is 1/4-20 and close there of. so i went with a mobile concept. bought some of these.
5 of the COMPARTMENT BOX, 25 COMPARTMENTS
2 of the COMPARTMENT BOX, 10 COMPARTMENTS

these work great as i can grab a case and carry it to the car, and then work from the case. each 25 case is one size hardware, and various type of it, then 8 bins are pins, clips, etc...

I found one of those too for free on CL! Outside was painted red but the insides were all still OD Green... It was like 10PM when the listing got posted, I knew it wouldn't last so I went right away to grab it. Wasn't sure if I was going to get carjacked or what as it was a "by the curb" listing... lol.

You should check out my website. It includes the full line of Durham Manufacturing cabinets.

Thanks!!

So can you tell me a bit more about Model 740-95? I like that and need to check some measurements but it may just fit what I need. My initial issue though is I'm not sure it'll sit against the wall with my stem wall and baseboard protruding out just a bit. Can it be mounted directly to a wall like 8" up from the floor? It's a sheetrock wall on 2x6 studs 16" on center...

I'm curious if my small blue bins will fit into the cubby holes, will measure them once I get out to the shop.

[insert drooling icon here]

What is shipping on that unit to 35758? ETA: It prolly, maybe, might be, perhpas a bit easier if you knew which one I was talking about: https://www.shopstoragecabinets.com/collections/metal-parts-bins/products/348-95

Do you have distributors/retailers?

My business is ShopStorageCabinets.com I am the distributor and retail site for Durham Manufacturing. The have been in business since 1922 and they are located in Durham, Connecticut.

Model 348-95 ships as a 2 piece parcel with UPS. These are oversized for UPS and they charge extra of course. The shipping should be in the 120 buck range.

Check out our website at ShopStoragecabinets.com or click on my signature in this post.

Thanks for supporting small business.

Model 740-95
Overall dimensions are 33-3/4" wide by 12" deep and 64-1/2" tall
Their are 104 sloped bins. That means the items in the bin will always be at the front. Making inventory and restocking easier.
The bins are 3-13/16" wide by 11-7/8" deep and 3-3/8" tall
Optional base available to raise bins 5-3/4" off the floor
These ship fully assembled

Bolting them to the studs without support at the bottom is probably not a good idea.

Overall shipping weight is 120 pounds. Shipping cost should be around 100 bucks, depending on the ship to location.

These are industrial units and should be secured to the wall. Although I've seen these back to back and bolted together to act as isles in a parts crib.

Thanks dittle fart... :D

I want something like this but really can't use something 12" deep. I'm scrolling thru your site now but if you happen to be aware of a similar bin only more shallow (like 6-8" deep) can you share the part # please?

Thanks...
