I got skunked today at my flea market, but I did take a few photos of this. I don't need the gears, and although it would make a terrific living history display for someone, I'm not a big machine guy and it was pricey. I was thinking, "Grab this, make a few guys restoring vintage Reed Prentice machines very happy, and make your money back and then some," but I chickened out. What do you guys think this was? Too small to be at the Reed Prentice factory, right? I'm thinking maybe this was in a machine shop, next to a Reed Prentice lathe or something, for replacement gears. It's laying down, but it was provisioned to be standing upright against a wall or put on a post.

Change gears for a lathe. Came with a new lathe for thread cutting. $400-$500 would be my guess.

Lugz--R/P included that box for storage of change gears with their lathes. Someone restoring one of these would be overjoyed to find this. Reed Prentice was one of the great early lathe builders--a number of people who post on the Practical Machinist antique section have them.
