I don’t know I just applied it this weekend. I would imagine if you stay away from hard solvents, sprays, and gas it will probably last a while

Clean it with a tub-o-towel or a wet wipe or what ever you choose. Dry it with a shop towel or rag. Dab paint on with a Q-tip and wipe off the excess with a dry rag or towel.

It lasts a long time a few years... all my impacts are white, chrome metric is blue, and sae is red. And my extensions and ratchets are red for easy Id.

Nail polish seems to work well to. Apply let dry and wipe with acetone...

I do a similar thing, but use a fine point paint pen, let dry, then a quick couple of passes with some steel wool to wipe of the excess. Makes reading/identifying a lot easier

Looks nice, I don't have much patience though so I just wrap my metric wrenches with blue masking tape.

I wish US manufacturers would actually color code stuff, only people I can think that color code stuff are taiwanese makers.

I've done that on some of my impact sockets with a white paint marker. They sure got a lot easier to read sizes.

I do that to on my combos as well as the color, blues painters tape on the metric, red electrical tape on the sae. I can I’d a wrench from a few feet away...

I'd do the SAE ones too, but for the life of me I can't find a roll of masking tape that hasn't self adhered to itself in this house.

Only if there was some easy way to mark the sockets, that's make things a lot easier.

My Craftsman stuff doesn’t have deep enough stamping to get good color. So I color code most of the rail, on the other hand most of my snap on stuff easily take color as it’s stamping is much deeper... I guess you could dip the end in color or how about some pinstriping. Impacts are easy just use white. Like unslow1 sugested above.

When I work in a dental office and they use heat resistant color coded rubber bands to keep track of things. It was simple and it worked, now I have in some way shape or form use similar techniques for tool control.... it all comes full circle...

I know a few guys that use spray paint. It also has the advantage that you have no doubt it's yours. Personally I couldn't do it. I have several that are spray painted bright yellow. Those I inherited.

I was thinking maybe fill a pan full of paint and just dip one end of the socket in a little bit but it'd be a mess and then it'd either mess with the size or rub off easy. Probably be less hassle for me to just learn to put things away instead of being a animal :lol_hitti

I might just get some more socket rails and put all of my loose ones on them and just paint the rails instead.

Thinning out Testor's model paint slightly will allow it to actually spread out in the stamping on the wrench. Using paint thinner will easily wipe away the excess either when it's still wet or once it has dried.

Duralast 36t are very strong ratchets. The paint is nail polish and is holding up well.

I've done the same thing with all of my work tools. Used yellow for SAE and red for Metric to match the colors of my Bondhus T-handles. I used paint pens. Got bored while the machines were running. Get quite a few comments on it and a few of the other guys have started doing the same thing with their own color schemes.

You mean the number that’s not stamped that’s “laser edging” if you mean the stamped number, I like all the stamping painted.

I meant the stamped number. That way the only thing you see is the size. When I get bored I'll try a couple ways.
