Why is the Ryobi 18V cordless ratchet only sold in Australia?

Some markets get some tools first. Australia is one of those. There's been a number of tools that Australia got 12-18 months before they finally made it to the US.

Post feedback on Ryobi's social media sites, or email their customer service and let them know you're interested.

Probably too many warranty claims. As long as that tool is, it would be pretty easy for Mr. Wrench Armstrong to destroy the ratchet guts or blow the head off. I heard too, (not verified) it was a impacting ratchet, which would be kinda nice.

I was watching the latest Mighty Car Mods and I saw them show a Ryobi cordless ratchet. I've wanted one for a while but I really didn't want to buy a separate battery system to get it, so this would work well for me. Anyone heard of this being released in the US or anyone have a good way to get one from Australia?

Not the same Ryobi. TTI bought the rights to the name for the Americas, Europe and Africa. Ryobi of Japan retains the rights to the name for Asia, Australia and New Zealand. They each do their own thing.

Incorrect.

Ryobi Australia/NZ is part of TTI's stuff. If the Ryobi tools are the yellow stuff like we get here in the USA, then it's all TTI.

Kyocera/Ryobi only has Asia, and a completely different lineup of tools. No overlap.

Any African Ryobi entities appear to be a completely separate entity - see Ryobi South Africa as an example: http://ryobi.co.za/

Edit: Ryobi SA might be sourcing some of their product from TTI, but it certainly doesn't appear that the business itself is being controlled by TTI.

I sent an email to the people over at Ryobi, and they tell me it is going to be introduced to the US sometime in 2019. Hopefully it will be a bit more reasonable than purchasing one from AU and having the huge shipping costs.

If you’re really wanting one PM me, I can see what I can do to help you get on. Understand that shipping will be somewhere in the region of $80 Australian when deciding how bad you want one.
Edit: The nearest Ryobi stockist to me lists them at $109 Australian

A big 18v battery seems like it would be excessive for a ratchet, especially for auto work. I don't see it becoming very popular here.

Thank you I have been wanting to get one for a long time ended up getting the m12 a few years ago. Just got the Jobmax one now. I always thought they discontinued it so you had to get the Milwaukee one. Lol it worked on me 1st m12 I got now I have 8 or so m12 tools that if I did not get the 3/8 m12 I would never have gotten them.

No had to get the m12 3/8 ratchet then the 1/4 ratchet and of course it snowballed from there. But if they only had the Ridgid ratchet I would have never got the M12 tools.

Appears the Ryobi P344 3/8" ratchet will be available soon.

My local HD (Windsor, ON) has these in stock. Not sure how long they've been there for.

I prefer the M12 ratchet for the price (I think $10 more here), but looks like it would be solid for someone that isn't into the M12 line already.

it's big .
milwaukee or toolpro for the oz boys has better options at this price point.
snapon still has one of the best battery wrenches .

Who knows why TTI does what they do?

Milwaukee seems to still kinda care about M28 over there, too.

Just picked it up. Got it with the two battery and charger deal. Buy the batteries and charger - get a free tool.
Yes it's large but it should make my life a little easier.

35 ft./lbs. of torque is really weak. The Gen 1 Milwaukee 12V cordless ratchet Model # 2457-20 has the same torque but it cost $149 while the Ryobi cost $79. The Milwaukee is $70 more.

Can you use it like a regular ratchet to break free the bolt, then pull the trigger to spin the bolt out? Or do you need to use a ratchet to break free the bolt first?

Appears you can use it as a manual ratchet to loosen or tighten bolts.

But don’t forget you blokes get a great deal on the exchange rate.
The Aussie $ is only worth US68 cents.

Is the Ryobi 18V cordless ratchet part of the Home Depot Ryobi days deal?
The Ryobi 18V cordless ratchet is not on the list of free tools to select for the two battery, bag, and charger for $99 Ryobi days deal.

PJNJ, how did you get the Ryobi 18V cordless ratchet and two battery and charger for $99? When I place all the items in the cart I got a subtotal of $178.00.

18-Volt ONE+ Lithium-Ion High Capacity 4.0 Ah Battery (2-Pack) Starter Kit with Charger and Bag for $99:

Sorry, I just saw your post. I have a HD a few blocks from my home. I went there after I saw the deal listed earlier in this thread. After I scanned the battery and the ratchet, they rang up at $99.00 total at the self-checkout for me. I would think it should do it online also but your experience seems to show a problem. If you have a HD local try going there and see. And yes the ratchet is part of the promotion.

I just went online to HD and it seems maybe that the ratchet may have been removed from the promotion since I bought it.
In the Hot Deals section thread for this deal, JerryC in post #27 said he couldn't get the tool he wanted to ring up with the battery deal for $99 online but it went through just fine at the store. So, if you can, go to your local HD and see what happens if you try to purchase it with the battery deal.
