OBDII scanner that runs KOEO and KOER?

I bought a cheap $40 OBDII scanner from Harbor Freight, works great to read the codes and turn off the MIL, but I think I need something more advanced to run the KOEO and KOER self tests. Two that come up in searches are Equus 3120 and 3140, but it sounds like maybe only OBDI cars support those tests?

Wife's car is 99 Lincoln Continental.

I have an Auto Enginuity (http://www.itpdiesel.com/store.php/products/Autoenginuity They have the best price that I have found). That is the way to go if you have a laptop. This is also one of the only "cheap" OBD tools that will work for my 7.3L Power Stroke engine since the diesel computers aren't as advanced as the gas ones. To run the KOER or KOEO test, I believe that you need the manufacturer specific upgrade. They are based out of CA too. It is a great program. It has already paid for itself twice. I also use a VAG COM for VW and Audi's. I believe it can do the code thing, but I don't think it can do the tests.

Good Luck, and Have fun.

I haven't found a CLEAR answer about running KOEO and KOER tests with OBDII, anybody know if it works?

Autoenginuity looks like exactly what I want except its not free. ;)

Same $40 cable adapter everybody sells, but they bundle it with software for $250 and you also need the $150 Ford specific package.

I've still got a few more rocks to turn over looking for free and/or open source software.

I do like the idea of running this off a PDA or laptop, but the Innova Equus 3140 sounds like it also will do the job for $150 or so. Something called a D900 from China (what isn't) seems like it also does it all.

Another option is to post to a Forum (a Ford vehicle one) and see if there is anyone in your area willing to let you use there scan tool for free. I know that happens a lot at Ford Truck Enthusiasts. But, yeah, if it isn't an Auto Enginuity or VAG COM then I am no help. Will Auto Zone be willing to do one of these tests? I know that they will hook the scanner up to your car for free; maybe you could persuade them to run one of the tests you are looking to do. If nothing else this is a bump for your post. Good Luck, and sorry I couldn't be of more help.

You won't get KOEO/KOEO from those bargin basement scantools/code readers. You have to step up to a scanner with Ford specific software.
I have read some about the AX7000 and it says it will perform those tests.

I have the Innova/Equus 3120. PM me if you want to swing by and use it.

Thanks JAFE, so far it "looks" like the Equus may only support KOEO KOER in the OBD1 mode, not OBDII. I'm still searching and reading, maybe I will learn something soon. ;)

If it turns out the Equus is the way to go, I'll buy it or something like it since I have a 1991 Mustang I want to fiddle with and not have to use alligator clips to jumper the pins while I count MIL flashes. ;)

If you’re not in a hurry, I might suggest searching your local pawn shops, craigslist, and fleabay for used Snap On MT2500 Scan Tools. It does both OBDI and OBDII(with the correct hardware/software). I scrounged my rig in about a week, and spent right at $300 with shipping. The MT2500 ‘Brick’ has been discontinued and Snap On will no longer support upgrades. Techs are selling theirs and going for the newer, faster, hi-zoot Solus, Verus, etc. The ‘Brick’ was very popular and effective from what I’ve read, 80’s until now. The main body has a display (version 1.8,version 2.2 backlit) with 2 memory cartridge slots, one for ‘primary’(year range and car brands) and one for troubleshooting(year and brand). Most setups come with the brick, carry case, manuals, cables, adapters, some personality keys(for OBDII) Later black cartridges have proms that could be flashed by the Snap On rep with updates for $$$. You could probably get away with one or two sets of cartridges (and a personality key) for the Conti and the Stang. Do some reading on the web to make sure you understand the combos you need. When you get a different car, just scrounge up another cartridge or two. Transmission, airbags, imports, etc. are available. Hope this helps.

Look on ebay for a used OTC 4000E scanner they will run the tests. The latest software is a 2002 Duece but this will work on a 1999 Lincoln. Just make sure it has at least the cartridge for your vehicle and cable.
