Made a rack for my Milwaukee parts organizers

I decided I could no longer stand having a million jars, bags, cups, and various parts bins in my garage, so I bought a bunch of organizers and made a rack for them.

Bringing home the raw materials:

Making a mess in my garage:

Tee nut countersinks:

Cutting the 1-1/2" x 2" 6061 AL:

Gotta f*ck up at least one

Added some AL trim to the front to keep it from getting beat up, also still waiting for the casters to be delivered. It's sitting on a dolly I made until Wednesday.

Done! Now I just need to sort out all of those pieces and fasteners, put them in the bins and make some labels.

Very nice! I bought the Dewalt boxes before Milwaukee came out with theirs. I only needed 4 though. Built the same kind of rack with casters, but I have one of the 4 drawer parts/hardware cabinets sitting on top.
This was one of my first steps to organizing my shop full of **** and it made a huge dent in my workspace and motivated me to look into further modifications of my storage situation.

Max, your design and execution are spot on!

Are you hiding those **** dollies under that cabinet? (yeah I called a shop dollie ****, see the build here- https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=392708 )

Those dollies inspired me to forgo the HF and build my own Oak and upgraded casters version for my recent move.

Yes it's on a 'Hella-Dolly' for now.
I ordered the casters for this project from NT with their "free standard shipping". I have come to realize that means "3-Toed Sloth Shipping Services". They should arrive on Wednesday, so they will have taken about 12 days to get here. Will post when finally complete.

Maybe it was mentioned above - what paint color is that to match?

Paint (not an exact match, but close enough).
BTW; 2 coats of primer and 3 coats of paint, all done in one day in my 90+ degree garage in low humidity.

Fantastic organizer for organizers. How did you decide on 12?

And love your garage!

I never want to run out of parts storage and I don't want a second bin rack.

My garage is a disaster. It is stuffed to the gills with little room to work while I am building a new workshop in my back yard.

It’s only money. Spend it and make it nice so that you are happy with the level of organization that you have. And being able to find something that you have relatively quickly is awesome. Great job!

Thanks, and I agree. Finally getting organized after too many years of messy, multi-use garages is something I am loking forward to.

This is nowhere near as polished as yours, but I did something similar for underbench storage.

I have a bunch of stacking storage bins from IKEA with loose lids. I know from experience that I will not consistently unstack anything for storage. Maybe it's just a Swedish thing to do that, I don't know, but anything I use frequently that's stored in a bottom bin won't get put away when I take it out. It'll wind up cluttering some other area, and the lower bins turn into wasted space full of junk I never use.

So I built sliding racks for them:

My racks are completely unlike your labor of love Milwaukee rack. They're just OSB assembled with glue and a finish nailer. But the concept is kind of the same: convenient sliding access for retail-bought storage boxes that weren't designed with racking in mind.

Now that's a nice job!
I think Adam Savage had something similar to this in one of the videos about his garage workshop, but I don't think his were handmade.

They accomplish exactly what you set out to have them do so they are perfect.

Huh... Who would have thought that Milwaukee makes their tools and boxes in a color called "cross my heart"? :spit:

It's actually "Romantic Rose" but the paint store couldn't match it so I went with this one.

p.s. thanks for the compliments, it was a fun project

Added casters and decals. Done!

Great result and nice work. I like the use of angle aluminum or steel so you don’t lose 1/2 inch each level — that is probably worth one level. I have 20 boxes now and need about 4 more.
