I have a 36 x 60 x 12 pole building that I'm trying to figure out a lighting layout. Ceiling is 12' with white metal ceiling liner, two 10 x 10 doors on the 36' side. I will insulate and finish the walls with white painted OSB. All electric and lighting will be surface mounted with EMT. Use will be general shop and auto work. I submitted a layout request to ProLighting with the best lighting maxlite fixtures and I want to see what you guys think. I'll upload the pics with my phone in the next post since it's easier.

Concrete is being poured tomorrow, so obviously the floor will not be dirt.

The fixture you posted has higher lumen output and longer claimed lifespan, so it's not entirely apples to apples.

Edit: But you are exceeding the recommended 93fc @ workplane, thus the slightly lower output fixture should be perfect.

I noticed that, they calculated 104 fc @ 2.5 ft, do you think the other fixtures would get me in the mid 90's?

Without doing an actual layout as I don't have time right now I expect it would be right there at 93fc @ 30" work plane.

Ran a quick test over lunch.

I get 100fc @ 30" workplane with 6x3 pattern 14410 lumen Earthtronics and it puts fixtures right where your garage tracks are.

Same layout using 12,445 Lumen fixtures yields 86fc

5x4 pattern 12,445 Lumen fixtures spaced 12'x9' (respectively) yields 95fc and no fixture to garage track interference

That’s extremely helpful. I threw it in AutoCAD quick. I like that only two lights would be blocked with the garage doors open. Since the lights look like 1x2’s is this the correct way to orient them?

If I did my calculations correctly that's 95W x 20 = 1900W. At 120V that's 15.8A. Not bad to properly light a building of this size.

What is your truss spacing? Also think about how you are going to mount the lights if you are not going to mount them to the truss. My trusses are at 8' and didn't want to use unistrut or framing between the trusses to hang the lights. This forced me to using higher output lights on the 8' spacing.

4' on center.

You got me thinking a little bit. Since I don't have these lights in hand I'm not sure what the flush mount looks like. I have 29ga steel ribbed ceiling liner already installed. Do I have to hit a truss or will the steel support it with sheetmetal screws?

That's why I posted the video - Howpeculiar did it right - he used rivnuts in locations where a truss wasn't available.

Consider this - https://www.ledlightingwholesaleinc.com/SLB2-95-p/slb2-95.htm
with surface mounting bracket price = $102.50 ea. 7 yr. warranty 75,000 hr. rating.

Need a little help. Life took over and running electric to the shop got put on the back burner. It's happening this spring and I'm ready to order but this link doesn't work and I don't remember the specifics. Any chance you could help me out? If not I'll just select something I think will work.

The H5-100W-XYZ link you posted is fine. Should be able to surface mount if J-Box is recessed in the ceiling.

Another option PLT-90097 fixture (4000K) (link) PLT-90098 (5000K) (link). Yes it's way over powered @ 18000 lumens, but hard to beat the price (note: shipping is not free). Just run the 0-10VDC dimmer wires and install a dimmer.

Another option: This Envirolite fixture at HD (link). Just remove the cord set and add dimmer wires ...

Not trying to hijack your thread but would that plt fixture work in a 32x40x13.5?

Jslys13 - With a dimmer sure. Without a dimmer it works best at 16'+ ceiling.

Thank you. I just liked that they dont require a separate bracket to serface mount vs the ones your recommended for me from bees lighting. Is there a difference in quality?

Unknown if there is a construction quality difference. Best measure of performance quality is to compare lumens per watt efficiency (making sure both fixtures data is with lens/diffuser - if possible).

My fixture suggestions change constantly as different products become available. It takes quite a bit of research, mostly sponsored by the fee based layouts that I do.

Insulation is already blown in, walls are finished, walls are insulated. Doing surface mount conduit, so I guess I'll have to hang the lights from chains.

Joe_K - Ask distributor about availability of mounting bracket for surface conduit.

This fixture (link) shows a J-Box hanger for surface mounting with side knockouts in their mounting instructions (link). Again I'd contact the distributor for price and availability.
