I am a newbie to kurt vises, seems to me that there should not be a lot of movement, but I am not sure. When I bought it, there were two of them and I am not sure I really checked this one over, I gave the other to my father, so I don't have quick access to it to see if it is similar. I did not measure it, but seemed like I could lift the movable jaw up about 1/2", is there adjustments, is this normal, am I screwed? I will try and get pictures tomorrow.

They are adjustable and rebuildable. Go to the Kurt site and you will find the procedure. Pay attention to how to adjust the setscrew, If I remember right it is tighten and then back off some. (On edit, reading the manuals a bit the backing off of the setscrew depends which model vise you have.)

I think its normal. There's a 45 degree angle surface so the forward pressure of the screw causes a force perpendicular to that plane. Resolving the vector into two equals means equal downforce on the moving jaw as forward pressure on the screw.

That's why the Kurt is a big improvement over say a Palmgren or Bridgeport vise. In those the forward pressure of the screw causes the moving jaw to lift up...

I was wondering if it was, but I couldn't find any info on how much it should move, just seems like a lot. I will get exact model and info when I go to the shop again. My other vise is a palmgren and it doesn't do this at all.

Here are the pictures, not as bad as I remembered, but still think she needs a rebuild. The serial number is not really visible, but it is an older D60.

Look at the above link. It shows on page 9-10 the procedure. The link above that I posted will get you to the rebuild kits, if needed. I'd suggest that you disassemble, clean, lube and then reassemble to check if all is OK. Then order a kit if needed. There are also new jaws available from Kurt or aftermarket sources.

Your base problem is that the setscrew in the movable jaw is loose, item #12 in the parts list in the link.

Once I get it apart, I am sure I will find that it is dirty too. I will be ordering the rebuild kit for it, they are like $11.
