Good evening
I just had a chance to purchase this set
S W Card No 301 Diamond Screw Plates
Mansfield MA
Box size: 31 x 8 3/4
Large die stock 28 1/2
Small die stock 13 3/4
Large die diameter 2 1/4
Small die diameter 1 1/4
Sizes 1/4-28. 5/16-24, 3/8-24,7/16-20,1/2-20,9/16-18,5/8-18,11/16-16,3/4 (?unclear from picture, but most likely size)-16,7/8-14,1-14
Missing 4 dies and all taps.
SW CARD MFG Co from Mansfield MA operated between 1874 and 1908. S Card died in 1899 and subsequently company was bought by Union Twist Drill Co. from Athol, MA.
And to add thanks to my Thanksgiving day :
Purchased on my way to work on Thanksgiving day: this box + 3 taps from different sets (blue point, GTD and Ace) from a nice gentleman for $3
Please share your sets by this company and educate me what is the best way to clean this set (very dirty with oil, dirt and shavings inside)...I will try papertowels to start as I do not want to damage any wood with any chemicals...
...Not sure yet how I will complete it: I did a quick search on ebay: some large tap lots have CARD samples - I guess there are ways of slowly getting them. Dies are going to be harder to get (I am missing 4...) The only thing which should help me is that I am from MA - hopefully will get lucky on CL over time...
