Hey all, I spent part of the day doing some long overdue maintainance to my 16 x 8 Wayne Dalton 8500 series door.It had become very noisy and loose over 9 years. You could see light thru outside from the top and sides so you know heat is escaping all winter.I got a set of 4 panel commercial grade "Green Hinges" off ebay for $97 and a set of Dura-Lift Ultra-Life MAX 2" Nylon Garage Door Rollers for $28 plus 15% off coupon (thanks GJ:bowdown:). Took about 2 hours total because I also tried to replace the bottom seal (4" Super Seal) but it did not fit the retainer correctly.I will wait for warmer weather or get new retainer as mine is warped somewhat. I can't believe the difference!:bounce: Quieter than when it was new.The sides are sealed up tight and even the gap at the top is gone. It goes up and down so smoothly now. I recommend these 2 products as highly as possible! P.S. I do not work for either company

I must have the noisiest 2 year old garage door in existence. It's been a POS since day one. I wasn't familiar with the nylon rollers, but I have a distinct feeling that I will be!

What are the "green hinges" all about?

I have more questions than answers.
Before spending your money on green hinges adjust your vertical track to move the door closer to the wall. If your track has rivets holding the stand off bracket to the track, get some carriage head bolts with nuts and drill out the rivets. Insert bolts adjust and save yourself a hundred bucks.

wrong...there is too much play between the roller and the track. You cannot adjust things enough...the spring loading of the green hinges takes care of this and works fantastically.

Or just place some washers between your existing hinge and the door to take up any gap . Worked for me. $4.14 per 100.

All true....... except maybe that pay for itself ???? At $100 per door and my 4 doors seal with the original gaskets and seal, they are 18 years old .........so not sure on the pay back thing.

This... The seals around the door may need to be replaced at some point but its easy to get it nice and tight by adjusting the tracks. Had to drill out the rivets though.

The hinges will keep things quiet. My current opener is louder than my door... Ive been hoping it will quit working so Im forced to buy a nicer unit..

The LM3800 I installed is very quiet so the hinges and rollers were really loud.

What do you experience after several years? Any loss in performance? Loosening up of hinges or other mechanical wear? Periodic adjustments needed? :dunno:

They seem to be performing the same with no adjustments, just a little lube like the rest of the door.
