It's customary of the Garage Sale thread to select next year's host by poll, from a list of candidates based on number of posts. We do this because number of posts is a good measure of active participation, and active participation is considered a minimum requirement for a host.

I have removed three names from contention. Myself, Outlaw, and 3bay, as former hosts.

The candidates are the available Top 10 participants, listed in order of the number of their posts.

Those voting - and those who may have to accept the job - should keep in mind that a good host also needs to be fair-minded and affable but determined to keep us on course with a slap of a nightstick every once in awhile if need be, too.

In the event that we vote for someone who declines the job, it will go to next highest vote total, and so on, until we have our 2019 Host!

Good luck to all!

I am positive that no matter who is host, 2019 will be another great year!

EDIT: Note that I screwed up and forgot to put a time limit on this, but I will be cutting it off in 5 DAYS at 6:09PM on 12-23-2018 in order to give the new host plenty of time to enjoy the holidays and prepare for next year!

:lol: Apparently, we MAY actually need a better way to do the whole thing, because Don has 3 votes even though he said he wouldn't accept if he won! :lol: :wtf:

I was following 3bay's lead, and he followed yours, and so on, and it's never been an issue before, but apparently three people voted before reading the whole thread.

I suppose in the past some people may have gotten votes who may have ended up declining, but we'd never know. I don't see any other way to do it except for contacting the top 10 participants before posting the poll, and that is just a PITA. I'm thinking this is still the best way even if some votes are wasted.

Those votes aren't "as wasted" as if Don had waited until the end of the poll and he was the top vote getter only to decline then. That clear as mud?

This one, dogdog. Inaugural thread was 2012 and we've had one ever since, always selecting a new host every year. Loads of tools and other stuff, and loads of fun. Now is a good time to skim through this year's thread and see what we're all about, and join us next year if you like. EDIT: Or heck, if you get out to a flea market, garage sale, estate sale, yard sale, ReStore, Freecycle, or CL stop before the holidays, join us THIS year! :lol: Pretty much anything goes except for on-line retail, brick-and-mortar retail, or truck tools buys. It's all about the hunt!

Technically, I could. If everyone voted for someone who didn't want the job, there would be nobody to smoothly and peacefully transition power to, and we would be hostless, which would result in anarchy. While I have never revealed my ideological inclinations, I don't mind saying that I am not an anarchist. :)

The Poll for the 2019 Garage Sale Thread Host was deadlocked at 18 votes each between BlueBomber and bluebolt at 6:09PM, when I said it would end, 5 full days after I opened it. I am going to extend it until 10PM. If you haven't yet voted, PLEASE VOTE NOW! I really don't want to have to flip a coin between these guys!

All: I hadn’t thought of a double host but maybe that’s the best way to follow up Lug’s amazing year.

Or a new vote with just the two BB’s for 24 hours?

Sorry for the confusion guys, which stems from me not setting a limit on the poll when I started it.

As I explained in Post #22 above, at 6:09 PM EST, 23 December, 5 days after I opened it, the vote was tied 18-18 between BB and bb. In that same post I said I would extend the voting until 10 PM, which I could do, because I forgot to set an automatic closing time for it.

At 10:02 PM, the voting was 22 to 21 in favor of BB. At that time, I wrote Post #22, closing the poll, and I took a screenshot and posted it in the GS thread. I guess I should've used a larger font saying the poll was closed, and I should've posted the screenshot here, too.

At any rate, BB won by one vote.
