Hi all.
My dad picked up this cool old mag drill the other day from an auction for a pretty good deal. It's a Black and Decker 1554 which I'm guessing was made between '74 and '75. The previous owner was a high school and being that your average high schooler would struggle to pick it up (hell I do, it's 105 lbs) it seems like it was barely used. The round ram is obviously inferior to modern styles, but it does allow you to swing if off to the side. The head is removable to allow you to use the magnet for lifting purposes.
The interesting part to me is that the serial number is 80090001. If that is a sequential number, then it would either be the 90000th (I doubt it) or the first.
I'm wondering if this was saved as a celebratory first-off-the-line sample, and then when B&D no longer cared about it anymore they tax-deductible donated it to the school.
Any guesses?
