My friend was swapping an engine in his truck in my garage. We left some hardboard down on the floor for several days to help keep all the grime off the floor. When we drained the coolant, we spilled some on the hardboard, but apparently some got under the hardboard where it sat for several days. Now I have a nice reddish stain on my floor. I tried spraying it with carb cleaner, Simple Green, etc., but nothing seems to get it off. What gives? I thought this stuff was imprevious/unstainable?

Anyone have a suggestion on how to get this stuff off?

...and before the flames start, yes, I am ****, but I also like to get what I pay for. I thought ArmorSeal would take a beating.

That *****. But if there's been a chemical reaction that has actually stained the paint, I would think nothing short of removing the old paint would remove the stain.

I don't know if you can lightly sand something like that out (assuming the stain is on the surface of the paint, and did not penetrate through)?

I'd sand it, but it will affect the gloss for sure.

There must be some sort of **** in the hardboard, that when mixed with coolant, makes a nasty staining solution.

I remember being pretty upset over my first stain. Iirc a brake fluid spill
that went unnoticed for some time. Pulled the color right out of the floor.
I'm almost 10 years into my Precision Epoxy floor now and nothing much
bothers me any more. Someday (maybe) I'll sand it off again and give it
another coat. That said I love my floor (weld splatter, stains, scuffs, scratches
and all). Something to be said for Precision Epoxies system is the thickness
.125+" makes it somewhat more oblivious to mechanical damage. An alternator
dropped from a height of 8' left a nice dent in the floor (didn't do the alternator any favors either) that has since filled with grease and dirt but never any issues with cracking or flaking.
Thinking now I should be nice to it and mop it this weekend...

This may sound silly, but try a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser on it... I had a stain on my tile floor that nothing seemed to take off, and just for the heck of it i rubbed the damp eraser on the spot and it came off about 99%. I don't know what those things are, but they definitely are worth the buck or 2 they cost. Give one a try. -JB
