How about something a little different today. For a change I thought I’d post these two pliers. A lot of you guys really enjoy some good pliers. I sort of knew what they were from seeing them online.

Upon searching, I found a thread over at Practical Machinist:

https://www.practicalmachinist.com/vb/antique-machinery-and-history/purpose-utica-1100-7-pliers-246903/

That led me to an old 60’s era Utica Catalog at archive.org:

https://archive.org/details/UticaToolCatalog

What we have here:

Utica 7” Fur and Cloth Stretching Pliers 1100-7

and

VC & CO. 6” made in Germany. I assume they are the same purpose.

A little searching tells me VC & Co. made barber razors, pocket knives, and various pliers.

The Utica has teeth, while the VC & Co. has a nice cross hatch pattern.

Nice. Feel free to post them up if you like. I was wondering how many use these.

ssdave, those ones actually are leather lasting pliers! ( I have a set of those as well!) they were most commonly used by shoemakers and cobblers but also found their way in to lots of other leather work and upholstery shops... the curved jaw allows you to hold and lever the leather |( or webbing etc. ) under tension and then slide the jaw back to take up slack and nail off the material better than any other design
