Do you folks know how tall a building is if you are trying to get a 12' inside ceiling height? Well, let me tell you that it is real high. My wife is gone right now but there is going to be h___ to pay when she sees these stud walls that the framers have just put up. The 7/12 roof is only going to make it worse. I am constructing a 1700sqft garage in my real nice back yard. This ain't going to be pretty when she shows up.

Easier to beg for forgiveness than to ask for permission :lol_hitti

It won't look quite as bad once the roof is on, and she'll get used to seeing the garage pretty quickly anyhow. Ask me how I know! :wtf:

I almost know cause mine is 14' high inside. The key is to have a high house to match the high garage.

She got over it quick...

Well, it wasn't so bad as I thought. She said, "Is it going to be taller than our house?" "Oh, no." I lied. The roof trusses go on on Thursday. I think they are 9'+ high. Like you said, she will get use to it, plus she will get her parking space back (what is more important-a Camaro and Chevelle or her Acura? We all know the answer.)

Neighbor down the street built a 3-car detached garage with a game room back half. It's taller than his house. It's a super-nice addition (fully bricked to perfectly match his house), but IMO it still looks a little weird. ;) What's odd about his though, I watched the roof trusses go up... there's no second floor, no real way to use the attic, and the ceilings are normal 8 foot ceilings inside (it's a garage, not a shop). It'd be different (acceptable) if he built it with higher ceilings, but normal ceilings - a huge roof - and no usable second floor or attic space.

You have to tell her, it only looks big at first, because there was nothing there. In 2 weeks, you'll hardly notice it. :)

Ward ...

After 20 years together ...There is nothing I can say or do to get her to divorce me...I say to her If I was you I would get rid of an AS$H*LE like me ..that would be the smart thing to do ....And her answer to that is ..."HAHAHAAH NO WAY that would be the easy way out... I'm not done putting you through hell yet so sit back and enjoy it baby cause you ain't getting off that easy..." So my life is a hole that I can't get out of my friend....I do still love her with all my heart she is the greatest....

Howie, now that I found out your gonna have 5ac. We need to talk bud...that 24x30: or whatever your thinking about ain't gonna cut it....I say build it bigger one time instead of building it twice....check the thread here about the "socket system" timber framing..I would tend to think that the building req. and city codes at your end of town are more laxed then mine and we could get you something larger for what you may be paying someone else to do for you ...We will talk more ..just get moved in already.

Mine tops out at about 26 1/2'. But next to the house, it's in proportion.
