Hello!

I am from Norway and I have been lurking around this forum for a while now. And I must say there is a lot of impressive shops and garages. The garage culture is quite a bit different form yours over here. Btw. My english may not be the best.

Here is some pictures of my little restoration project. It used to be a old stable in a barn.

First some before pictures it was in pretty bad shape:

looks awesome!

I gotta admit it would of been sweet to keep maybe one wall with the old brick just to show some character.

still, it looks fantastic

Utgangspunktet var typisk norsk ja, men resultatet var en fantastisk forandring!

The starting point was typically norwegian, but the the finished product was amazing!

I'm planing on building, as we call it, an "american garage" at my next home! Standard norwegian garages are dreadful and very limiting.

Thank you for the comments :)

I didnt know there were other norwegians in here. heh. Nice.

I bought the toolbox at www.elfa.se Seems to pretty good quality too. The sandblasting cabinet was bought on jula (jula.se) but the quality isn't to good. It needs a little work before it is usable. It has poor lighting, and is not sealed propertly.

Did you have to make any structural changes to make the building safe inside, or was it pretty much cosmetic changes only? Also, how is the outside of the building and the roof?

I really love old buildings, looks like you restored a gem and did a really nice job of it!!!!

I see that the cabinet is the same as i bought at Torshov Bilrekvisita. It's OK for what I payed for it, 2700kr, but as you say the quality could be better. Needs some more light and maybe a vacuum system. Sand dust was coming from the bolt holes, my fix was rubber washers and that did the trick!

To nordmen som sitter her å skriver engelsk til hverandre føles litt dumt, men vi får holde de andre "in the loop".

Very nice, never seen a heater like that with an exhaust? In the US they're called salamanders, lots of heat but they stink when fired with oil

Tank you!

I had to remove two of the pillar's, and the wall next to it seemed a little weak. So I reinforced it with a square pillar close to the wall(as seen on picture) I was a little skeptical when I was making place for the garage door. I reinforced the top of the door with an I-beam. And it seems to work out fine. I can take a picture of the barn tomorrow:thumbup:

I have used heaters like that without exhaust and yes they tend to stink. The exhaust works excellent. It's a little bit more expensive than the ones without the pipe, but it's worth the money.

Congrats. Very nice job, looks like it will be a good shop for working. Where did you get that folding door? I have been thinking of something like that to replace an old wood garage door that I have.

Your English is quite good.

Your girlfriend is very cute.

Your barn is awesome.

How old is the building? It looks like you have a big yard...I always think of Europeans having small properties.

Fantastic job  One would never have thought it could turn out looking that great.

What is the wheel in the corner for. Has it been turned into a clock?

Thank you for the comments.

The folding door is produced in sweden. You can find more info at http://www.recoport.se/.

There are no plans for the loft. The rest of the barn is mostly used for storage.

I am not sure how old the building is. But it's in good shape. There are lots of big properties around here.

The wheel in the corner is a wheel I found in the forest. I made it a little bit wider and polished it, and it's now working as a clock.

About the VW. It's a vw polo gti. It was not sold in usa i believe. It's a funny car. It's out for sale.

Nice shop, nice gf, nice Polo. I like the red and black trims and the custom clock (extra-lite flexplates make cool clocks too). A similar US version of your car is a Golf.

I wish that the Polo would be imported into the states. It would be closer to what a VW "should" be more so than the current crop. Although, I'm looking forward to the Mk 6 GTI - sounds like they are returning to the original idea of the GTI with the modern necessities..

Good luck with the sale! It's easy to see the amount of work required to make it so smooth looking - well done!

Again, great shop and can't wait to see more projects

Cool set up, Sir! Is the area above your shop still used as a barn, or has it been converted to another use? It appears that the structure is pretty good sized overall..... complete with a loading bridge. You have a wonderful shop and have our curiosities fired up!

....more pictures, please!

Love what you've done with the barn.

Your Polo is nicely done too. I have to say, I am quite jealous we don't get the Polo or Lupo here in the states.
I really wish we got the mk2 polo squarebacks here. Like this.

Anyway, good luck in selling your car, hope you get another Vw and have some fun with it in your new space.

Cool barn- you shouldn't run out of room to stash stuff there. Is this on a farm, part of an old farm, your currently functional farm, etc? What are you going to be working on in there?

It's a farm. We dont run it no more. The fields are out for rent. In my shop I am going to work on cars and other projects. I am also going to do some welding. I am a big fan of tools and metalshaping.

Awesome job. How long did it take you to go from start to finish on the stable?

It took about a year from start to finish.. Well it's not quiet finished.. Some electrical work left.. and always some small tings to fix.

Very impressive work you did in your garage G_Yog you gotta love these old European barns. What is the square footage of the whole barn it looks huge and is the rest of the barn in good shape ? Would love to see more photos if you have them.

Thank you everybody..

The air manifold I made myself.

I am not sure about the square footage.

The sliding door is a swedish recoport found at recoport.se

Here is some picture of my welding cart finished. I am pretty satisfied about the way it came out. :)
