ESCO 10498 Jack Stand Pictures

I just received my jack stands. They do look solid. I had read in the reviews that the finish and workmanship wasn't great... and that is apparent. I thought I'd post pics in case someone else wants to see them.

For the price, they should be finished better, IMO. Even the stickers were hanging loose... either not fully applied or just peeling up.

Some had complained about uneven pin holes or shafts without the tops welded straight... mine seemed to be fine from that perspective.

And yes, the finishing and welding was done by a 13 year old worker in China who still hasn’t learned. It is what it is.

I think we paid $60/pair. Ours are fine finish is what i expect for made to a price point, no competition on the market frequently abused never loved shop tool haha. That said 4 of them hold up a 12000 pound skid steers very well and completely stable, much better than the other stands we used, they were rather sketchy when you're calibrating the tracks at full speed or raising the boom to work on the engine.

Design looks nice, but I can make nicer looking welds than that, and I’m still teaching myself how to weld.

While those us jacks look nice their not anywhere close to the same style as the op. Hein Werner used to make a set of pin type jackstands. Their is a rv company who makes a few pin type jackstands in America as well I forhet who it was but I had a set with my old mallard trailer

I've always liked the design of the flat top on the Esco jack stands.

I have stands that I believe were from Wal-Mart in the early 2000s that are quite good, but always consider upgrading to something with a flat face on the top. Most the cars I work on have jack points that would be better suited for those faces.

Love my Escos, and I paid more than $55 ea. My only minor niggle with them is they take up more space to store than my prior ones.

I think those Esco stands look pretty good. I much prefer their adjustment mechanism to the ratchet type.

For truck stuff I nutted up and got a pair of these Sunex 10 ton stands on sale for $189 shipped. I wanted something I could trust when removing the suspension and sitting under the suspended half of the truck. I need a stand 32” tall for the truck to sit level. I do hate storing them indoors, they probably should be moved to the wood shed.

Interesting that those don't have the cross bars between the legs! I think the original AC stands were made in Denmark, but those don't seem to be easily available in the USA anymore.

I don’t think the AC branded stands had the reinforcements between the legs. As far as I know they only imported them to the US for a short time. I have the same ones, purchased from an AC dealer over 15 years ago. I think when the Esco copies became available, they added the reinforcements.

Edit: nope, it looks like AC did add the reinforcements at some point. The early versions didn’t have it though.

LOL it's just the petroleum smell from the rubber.. you can wash it with some dish soap and it will go down a bit each time.

I have them, I use them a lot and I feel safe under a car supported by them. That's what matters as they have and continue to serve me well. Money wel spent!

The only thing I did not like was the flimsy linch pin used to secure the end of jack pin. The hole in the end of the jack pin will accept a 1/4" pin, but they supplied a tiny linch pin that I have no faith in remaining in place (too easy to knock it and unfasten it). So I replaced those two pins with 1/4" steel wire-lock clevis pins from McMaster, @ $2.50 per. The stands are rated at 3 tons per stand.

Interesting, I just used mine this morning. I have had mine for a few years now, so here are some shots of the pins that came with them. Not sure if they are the same as yours or they have changed them.

Here is a picture of the pins that came with mine. The ring is sprung to flip up and cover the end to prevent retraction. Are these the pins you didn't like?

That's what I have also shown above I just don't have the ring flipped

Are yours sprung as well? Mine have to be forced all the way open to stay open, otherwise they snap shut, retaining the pin.

Yes, those are the ones I don't like. They are much too small for the application (the hole in the jack pin will accept a much larger diameter pin, up to 1/4"). I found it very easy to "un-snap" them, and do not trust I could do that inadvertently while in use. Because of their small size, there is very little spring power holding them closed. The clevis pins I got from McMaster have a 1/4" pin, which just barely fits the jack pin hole (but they slide freely), and it takes a concerted effort to release them. Heck, at <$2.50 each, it is cheap insurance, and no I did not pay McMaster to ship just those two pins.

I keep a cart at McMaster with stuff that is not needed right away, so they came along with several other items.

Here's a pic of my four that I bought in 2015-2016-ish.

Positively no corossion, problems with the welds, surface rust, or defects bubbling through. These live in southeast Ohio, America's humid armpit.

They've gotten tons of use with big clunky cars on them. Even the rubber pads have somehow held up.

I would contend that the armchair complaints on "quality" are not realized in real life.

I have 4 of these and am a fan. Mine don't have the plating issue like the OP, but come on, these are jack stands, not jewelry. If they were bare metal they'd last a million years. As far as the small pins for the support pins... really? You use those? I understand why Esco included them, but you insert the main pin. It's not going to magically retract - at least in my garage. YMMV...
I have no idea where those tiny pins are for my stands...... but they're not in use...

I grabbed a couple of my jack stands today to support my car so I can do some work and as I was adjusting the height to set them under the car I realized that I have 2 different types of ESCO stands (see photo).

I have some with a single hole and some with a double hole. I have a total of 6 stands that I did not purchase at the same time or the same year. I am wondering if anyone else has the single hole in the tripod and if it's possible to drill an additional hole on the singles for a "finer" height adjustment? I also don't know which type is older, the double hole or the single.

Anyone else have a mixed set?

I have both the single hole version without cross bracing AND the double hole with cross bracing versions.

My single hole are original AC stands. These new (red) are the Esco stands.
