Assembled in the US or made in the US? Not sure if that really matters to me. Budget is already maxed out with my current selection. If anything I'd like to spend less and still get the CFM I need but not sure if that is possible? Was also looking at an industrial air which is less money but may be louder. Think all the quincy's in the same price range I looked at didn't have enough CFM.

Quincy is us made.......

Sent from my iPad using The Garage Journal mobile app

From what I've seen on this board.....I'm not impressed with Quincy's quality.

*Single belt for a 5HP motor.
*Set Screw pulleys vs Sheave/Bushing style pulleys.
*Only one stage is aftercooled.

While I just recently got interested in compressor design, These are definitely cost cutting measures when compared to old 2 stage compressors.

Why not just buy a used one? I see them on Craigslist all the time around here - all sizes and styles.

I bought a used Snap-on 5 hp with a brand new Baldor 5 hp motor for $800 awhile back - it's a decent compressor.

I also bought a Champion 3 phase for my shop for $450 - it's been an awesome compressor. Even if I had to buy a new single phase motor for it, it would still be cheaper and better than what you are looking at.

At the price point he is shopping, Quincy is a poor choice regardless of where it is built or rather assembled.

Hey OP if you have $5k, Quincy offers a excellent QR pump.

I don’t disagree. Just stating facts.

The kobalt one looks halfway decent. The HF one was a consideration in the past but would prefer 175 max psi and an 80 gallon tank. Noise really isn't too much of a factor coming from an old craftsman 110v compressor. But it seems the more noise they make means running at a higher RPM which doesn't equal long life. Used off craigslist isn't really an option currently lacking a truck to transport it.

The low line Quincy pumps are USA made ?
?

Made = Manufactured or Assembled? I honestly dont know, maybe someone with more in depth knowledge can chime in on specifics about motors/pumps/tanks. I only know from both here and firsthand experience that the lower end stuff has been subpar at best for the last decade or so.

Their site only says :

"In 1937, Quincy Compressor introduced the Quincy QR-25, which has become an industry symbol of quality over the past 65 years. These same durable characteristics are present in all of Quincy’s complete reciprocating line, which is manufactured in Quincy, Illinois.

In 1980 we began machining and manufacturing operations in our Bay Minette, Alabama, plant, where we manufacture our rotary screw compressors and vacuum pumps. We expanded the Bay Minette plant’s capacity in 1996.

In 2004, we expanded into Kunshan, China, as we opened Q-Tech Air Systems, Ltd. Q-Tech currently employs about 35 people and is expanding. This facility assembles and tests Global rotary screw compressors. The first official production was in July 2004, and the official opening of the facility was in September 2004."

"The pump is an ABAC (Atlas Copco owned) pump from Italy. The cylinder is completely cast iron (not sleeved) but it is a hybrid design using an aluminum crankcase and coolers and either side of the head. It has been basically the same design since 1949. "

OK, so be aware the pump on the HF is the same company.

Now, it turns out the 318 IS a different pump than the HF.

The HF has a T29 ABAC pump, the 318 has a T39.

This is the one on the HF model -

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07G55B24Z/?tag=atomicindus08-20

This is the same machine as the Belaire 216V

So the 318 will be higher CFM, bigger tank, and a few other perks.

My interest in this is that I got the HF a while back, and was very curious how it compared to Belaire.

So I was wrong saying they are effectively the same... The 318 IS a better comp.

Ya, So I apologize I did not know about the pumps not being the exact same ones.

But still both ABAC Italian made ,, the bigger one has larger bore and stroke I learned.

I talked to an old time tech VERY knowlegable horse's mouth at Chicago Pneumatic about this.

Will PM give contact info to needing partys.

The whole bizness of companys buying others... I understand that now Atlas /Copco owns ABAC, ? Quincy ? , NAPA labeled comps, Belaire, Chicago Pneumatic, HF Central Pneumatic, and some other names.... confusing.
