Reversible Ratcheting Wrenches: Facom 467 and Proto JSCVT

Thought I'd post about my new ratcheting wrenches from Facom and Proto. I recently picked up a new set of Facom 467's (old style) from Amazon.de, and the Proto JSCVT chrome wrenches from Zoro. The Facom set is metric and the Proto set is fractional.

There's a reason that my thread title says "and" and not "vs". Proto owns Facom, and both of these wrenches are sourced in Taiwan. When placed next to each other it's pretty obvious that some different inserts in the forging tools are used to create the wider/rounded Facom shape, and the only other obvious differences are slightly different direction selectors, and the satin vs polished finish. My Facom were older stock without the ASD feature that the new 467B series have. My Protos have ASD. Both Facom and Proto feel exactly the same in terms of ratchet operation/tooth count/backdrag, etc.

I grabbed a 14mm and a 9/16 for comparison in the photos below. Shapes and execution are all but identical.

Note that Proto makes more than this JSCVT chrome Taiwan sourced ratcheting wrench set - there's a different Taiwan sourced black chrome set with spline drive, and a different US made chrome set with spline drive. Each offering is a bit different. But the Facom 476 and Proto JSCVT share virtually all of their DNA.

Thanks for sharing

I wish the Protos were satin finished instead of being full polished.

I wonder how they compare to the Dewalt reversible ratcheting combination wrenches?

Facom style all day long .
The soft satin chrome they spec is very nice, only thing better is finish stahlwille use .
great daily use wrenches nice grip and slim heads at very affordable/good value pricing

Agree that the satin chrome is nicer. Honestly if I had a do-over I'd have waited for the 467B's to get cheap as they have the ASD on the open end and the little wire insert in the box end that prevents the wrench from pushing through on a bolt head or nut.

In the end it's all just an upgrade from straight non-reversible ratcheting wrenches. In that respect, no matter what I bought I was going to deliver a big improvement.
