got a Blackhawk S14 jack, need info and parts

Hello,
as i stated in my introduction, my father bought a floor jack to work on our pickup, the thing looked quite old and in need of care(it does work!), it has been unused for years as well so i want to -at least- restore it to "safest" order possible.
turns out the jack looks like a Blackhawk S14 with top cover "intact", but it's been neglected and ghetto-modified through the years.
But from other posts and my pictures, i'm not 100% sure i have an S14, it has no lantern hump on the top side of the cover but the hydraulic box label says S14.
The piston linkage is also different and my unit has two chains on the side to prevent overextention of the pump piston

After googling a lot i came across this forum which had the most info about this jack.
Thanks to that i downloaded the parts list and found a couple sites which offer the seal rebuild kit(blackhawkparts and hcrcnow from which i got the manual) -sadly at the very steep price they have it i'm not going to be purchasing it-

Things that are missing/broken which i need info/part:

  • Return spring S13.184
This one i'll made it to order on a spring shop.
  • Side bolt S14.128 missing
I can't find any info on the bolt size/thread to size locally, it looks like a BSW thread
  • The release system has been butchered, seems like it broke and they couldn't find the linkage so they cut a hole on the top cover, cut the shaft in half and made a square socket to which a rod is inserted that ends in a release knob to the side.
i'm not sure the parts i need or how to find them, looks like i need: S14.199 universal joint terminal, 1502-D joint knuckle 1502-E joint pin
  • The top pivot pin for the upper lift arms moves with the side nuts, is this ok or has my pin seized up?
  • The linkage for the piston from the handle also looks different i think
  • The unit is quite leaky and dirty, haven't cleaned it yet.
  • ¿what should i do about the oil inside?, drain it and change it?, with what?(ATF?), remove the strainers and clean them?
  • I also seem to be missing the grease port/****** for the front wheels but the part is not listed in the part list(but it is on the diagram) and maybe i have different wheels altogether

I can post other pictures if needed

I have restored an S4 model. You have an early S14. You can tell by the brass ID plate and several design features on your jack such as the towers on the rear caster fenders.

In the USA, you can find endless donor jacks for 100 or less. The bad news is that shipping one to Argentina will be ridiculously expensive. The best option would be to find a GJ member who has one and/or would be willing to strip one down and send you only what you need.

For basic assembly parts, the S4 and S14 use the same hardware. For example, the castings on my jack have stamps that show the S14 and S4 models can use the part.

Welcome. You've come to the right place to get your jack back in service.

First i should make clear that the scope of the restoration is "working order", after all we didn't bought this for the vintage status, but to have a working jack so i'm not looking for pristine as-new condition, only for it to be mechanically sound.
As it is, it's "working" but leaky.

indeed shipping a donor for parts is impossible, and i'm also not planning to spend more than i spent on the jack itself(it costed around 100) on a seal kit, for that sum of money i could've bought a new chinese jack and some.

So today we took it all apart, now that i have the seals out i can take them to a local oring manufacturer and see if they can manufacture the seals, or maybe replace them with modern quad seals.

Some details found:

  • The lower bolts for the sump have no strainers on them, they're simply plugs
  • The oil turned into sludge at the bottom
  • The last ring on the piston seal was cut
  • Someone had a go at this in the past, the square bolt on top of the piston was mangled up, i can't find any info on what is it for.
Now we're going to clean it with kerosene and see what comes out.

i hope someone can find the info i asked for in the 1st post

Cleanup complete with engine cleaner, pressure washer, detergent, brake cleaner.
The cylinders are a little bit scored i'll be taking them to a machine shop for polishing.

The body still has some patches of hardened grease that the pressure washer could not remove(even using another engine cleaner/degreaser) but it's still good enough

If GarageJournal member Hiball is still active he'll know who you can order the seals from. Love what you've done so far. That really cleaned up well.

Here is Hiball's recommendation for hydraulic jack parts:

yes i've seen his signature but my spoken english is kind of rusty to be able to make that phonecall, i rather contact via email and so far i've not seen that company having either email nor website, i'll see if i can fax them.
In the meanwhile i'll pm hiball to check this thread

still the seals are one thing, i'm still needing the info on the bolt and knucle parts for the relief valve on the handle

Well i'm sutck on this, the local seal shop has no idea what to do with the seals and proposes replacing them with a modern thick ring seal made to order....
Couldn't get in touch with hiball either.
Now i've sent a fax to hydraulics parts supply letsee if i get lucky

¿can someone explain to me the theory of operation?, how does the oil get to the pump cylinder in the first place when you have a seal pack in the way(against the outer casing and inside against the inner cylinder) and i see no check-valve or reed-valve?, are the seals in the inner cylinder one-way?

Well... i'm not really having much luck on the forum with my questions, it's been a couple weeks and i haven't got a single response to any of my questions about the jack(parts needed, operation, etc) sadly, save for Roberts chiming in with the phone number.

btw just called and they quoted my 117 bucks, yikes, that's more than what we paid for the jack, and if i tally shipping and customs, that doubles easily so i'll see if i reuse the seals or make a modern one

No offense, but I think your budget is unrealistic considering the jack and your location. I hope you can figure it out.

none taken but it's not unrealistic considering my location.
100 USD might not be much for you, but it's insanely expensive for us and that's not including shipping and customs (it would be akin to telling you the seals cost USD 6000).

Like i've said, i'm not going to pay more for the seals than for the entire jack itself twice over, as at that total price i could get a brand new modern jack
