Transmission fluid stain on smooth 8505 sealed concrete

So I sealed my smooth concrete floor with GS 8505 - applied densifier first, 2 years ago - the concrete was about 6 months old at time of application. I now have a trans fluid stain about 2 months old on the concrete. I tried getting it up with Chomp Pull it Out oil stain remover and it won’t come up. How can I get stain out?

Here’s the kicker- as a test I used the same stain remover on a really old, large motor oil stain in my home garage and it worked like a charm. That concrete is over 20 years old and has never been sealed.

the only thing I can suggest is put a clay dam around it, fill the void with some very soapy water and something like simple green or TSP mixed in and let it sit without drying out. The ATF has soaked down into the concrete. You have to get that soapy water down under it to release it and let it float to the surface of the water. Then clean it up and use clean water to replace the soapy water. Then let it dry before coating or sealing it again. The longer the ATF sits the deeper it goes (gravity and capillary action). When Norton AFB was closed they had to tear up all the concrete and then dig the dirt out under it because 50 years of spilled ATF, hydraulic fluid, solvent, cleaning agents etc. from the planes had soaked thru a lot of inches of concrete into the soil under it.

I have used brake cleaner or acetone to wipe up stains. So far no problem. My 8505 is about 2+ years. But it can be stained and I knew that going in. Try some dish soap scrubbed in well.

When I worked at a Kerr-McGee gas station in the late '60's we'd clean up oil leaks/stains on our concrete by sprinkling kitty litter over the stain, then scraping and twisting our shoe soles against stain until the kitty litter was ground into dust against the concrete. Concrete is a lot harder than kitty litter and wasn't damaged, but this process DOES work. I've used it many, many times since then. Sweep off the dust and the stain is gone.

Ghostshield at some point will allow penetration. In other words if you spill something and you don't clean it up it can cause an issue. Drop me a PM with your full name and email address and include a photo. I will get an email chain going with their customer service people

I applied a second treatment of Pull it Out this past Thursday and it looks better. I applied a 3rd treatment on Friday. I’m out of town through Wednesday have it set to be removed- I will report back on results. If a stain remains I will send pic and email info.

Assuming it pulls the stain out, should I reseal that specific area with 8505?

Any benefit to applying 8510 over whole garage floor at this point or are the two versions incompatible?

I would much prefer to go over this in email, with pics, so we can involve Ghostshield directly. I don't mind having the solutions posted after the fact but the forum is not the best place for me to troubleshoot.

I'm in the same situation with 8510 that was put down about a year ago. Mine was a diesel spill from the tractor, cracked fuel filter. Parked the tractor, took a three day vacation and when I went out to use the tractor there was about a 1/2 gallon on the floor. Oil dry to the rescue, cleaned up the diesel that was sitting on the floor then spread more oil dry down and did the grind in dance. Still see a stain.

One of the reasons I did 4 color stain before ghostshield. I knew somewhere down the line a stain will occur. With the random stain pattern anything that does go as a permanent stain blends with the rest.

Can you elaborate on this 4 color stain some more?

I sprayed 4 different colors in a random pattern before any Ghostshield products were applied. I hated the gray look of the cement. I also knew as a working shop things happen. It’s going to get stained as I can’t win them all. The random pattern breaks the outlines up.
It’s not shiny with the 8505 on it but you do see color. That’s all I wanted, and no stains!

Any pics of the finished product and what you used?

I’m about to do the same thing, do you have any pictures you could share?

Its important to understand that penetrating sealers will not withstand automotive fluids indefinitely but there are solutions. Always happy to help. Just email details and photos

In my photo album here on the site I have a couple after it was just washed. That’s the only reason it’s shiny in the photos.

Hi Justin- I sent you an email with a summary of the issue and attached a picture of the stain in its current state. The white residue is the dried up Stain remover.

Justin - I am seriously considering etching the 1200 sf with Hydro-Etch® 1000 and coating with Urethane 645. As you know the concrete is currently sealed with 8505.
Do you know of anyone who has done this successfully without grinding the concrete?

I don't even promote that product and would have to rely on Josh for that info

I'm in a bit of a pinch. The 8505 didn't work as expected for me but if I want to put a coating on it, event floor paint, I have to grind the surface.
