I have a large dust collector vac system and I just purchased a media blast cabinet. The cabinet just happens to sit right next to the dust collector. Anyone use one of these to evacuate their media blast cabinet?

Interesting. I have a cyclone on a bucket and a shop vac. Mine doesn’t need much vacuum. Going directly into any vacuum will destroy it. That one will allow the fine dust into the shop. Look at a small dust deputy and Oneida products.

I use a shop vac with HEPA filter. The bag catches most of the dust and what escapes the HEPA filter gets the rest. Change them a couple times a year. Professional separators seperate the broken beads and dust from the good beads, and then you can reuse the intact beads. You don't want to breathe that stuff, it can cause all sorts of lung illnesses.

Yes I was thinking I could put a can between the two but the dust collector is designed to pass debris through it. I have had large chunks or wood and PVC go through it. Just trying to keep things simple since it right there.

Like others.....shop vac with media collector in between the cabinet and the vac.

OP.......that unit is likely be way too large, plus the fabric filter will allow fine dust through.

That cabinet is a beautiful color! @Falcon67
Are pleated cartridges good for blast cabinets?
I've noticed a lot of people use Wynn or Harbor Freight in their shops.

My wife surprised me with a https://www.modublast.com/e-series-economy-suction-blast-cabinets. The size I have is the E4284-DC.
The filter is a little expensive from the manufacturer. I did a cross-over on the filter and I can get a filter at NAPA for less than 50% of the OEM cost.
The only change I would like to see is a remote filter. I would like to place the cabinet closer to any wall. I would like to vent the vacuum to the outside, also.
Do I like the cabinet? Yes. Very much. I had an off-shore POS before this. I was about to take it to the city transfer station when someone asked for it and I gave it to them.

They make "gates" to adjust airflow.

"Gates" are for on/off.

You might try to use them to adjust airflow, but that is not what they are made for.

Regardless, use what works for you, I'm not using my DC on my blast cabinet.

I'm building my Harbor Freight Blast Cabinet now and found several folks have used a variable speed controller to lower the speed of their vacuum system. However, I haven't found any that have followed up after years of use to determine if that idea harmed their vacuum.

Anyone here with experience with that?

The plan is to exit out the back with a hose to a bucket with a Dust Deputy then to a sacrificial Ridgid vacuum. To reduce noise and too much vacuum, I thought the the variable speed control along with an adjustable baffle might work, but fear burning out the vacuum.

I think a woodworking style dust collector is going to eat a lot of good media. It will work,
no question but the media is going to be consumed at a noticeable rate because of the large airflow.

You just want to collect the small fines that are essentially floating around, squirrelling up vision and not enough mass to do any removal. Shop vac or similar should be enough flow.

HF sand blast cabinet, Dust Deputy on 5 gallon bucket, Rigid Shop Vac with Dry Wall dust filter. I attach another hose to the shop vac outlet and hang it out the window to keep any micro dust that should make it through out of the shop.

Works perfectly...
