Hi Guys,

I just received my first set of ratcheting wrenches! I was debating between Harbor Freight's new Icon line, Sk-X-frame wrenches or Proto's spline drive. I went with the Proto JSCVM-14SA set due to it being reversible, having a 15 degree offset and the wrenches being made in usa. Zoro recently had a 20% off coupon which dropped the price of this set to $250 out the door which I thought was a good deal. At this time, the X-frame wrenches are going for $220 and Harbor Freights are $150.

I haven't had a chance to use them yet (since I just received them yesterday) but the one complaint I had was one of the Proto wrenches (the 19mm) looked like it had been chewed in several places. While I expect to scratch these up with use, I was a little disappointed that they were received new this way. No problem though, one quick phone call to Zoro and they're sending me another wrench. Shout out to the guys at Zoro! I'll be ordering from them again!

Can't wait to break these wrenches in... let me know your thoughts!

Glad to hear that Zoro is taking care of you! I've spent a lot of money with them but have never had to use their customer support.

The wrenches look great! (except the 19mm haha)

Wow, I did the same thing you did and burned a 20% off coupon to purchase exactly the same set. Got to use them for the first time this weekend. They're fantastic.

I use these at work (industrial maintenance) they have been my workhorse wrenches going on 10-11 years now. I have not broken any of them. Good to hear Zoro took care of you!

Congrats! I’ve been drooling over these wrenches for a year now - I think your post has put me over the top. I’m gonna order a set when I get a good Zoro coupon.

Now I just need to save up for the JSCV-11SA version (fractional set). If I ever need ratcheting wrenches with zero offset, the SK-X-frame wrenches will be high on the list. I wish SK X frames offered more wrench sizes though, even if you had to buy additional sizes individually. The nice thing about the Proto's I bought is there are plenty of other sizes available for individual purchase.

Is 12 point available in these? I’m really interested and love my proto non-ratcheting combos but I’m just not excited about the spline.

Not keen on spline drive, the ICON reversible are a pretty good buy with a 20%+ coupon, seem to be made by high-five and decent quality/design, about one and only ICON tool that worth having .
I been using a metric set daily for almost 2 months with no complaints .

SK x-frame really not that great, the 6 pawl design makes ring thicker and back drag higher plus they only do them in 6 point.
The other issue is the x design of stamped out centre at ring end creates wide joint to ring which means your wrench hits obstruction quicker reducing swing travel over more standard good design efforts were the handle to ring has some level of relief/slender width .

Mr. B How long have you been using your X-Frame wrenches?
