Still coming from that rusty small box of tools from this week, I pulled out of the chemical soup for rust removal the following adjustable drill bit. My old eyes spotted a very tiny mark that I had to use a strong magnifying glass just to make it out. Sure enough this is what I found P. S. & W. Co. Patd. Sept. 4th 1894.
You guessed it Pexto ( Peck Stow & Wilcox). So like my last post it also reads not known to have been produced which we all know that is not the case. As a matter of fact Mr. Ford patented two other drill bits that Millers Falls also produced.
Now for the funny part I had seen the word Ford Auger bits from all those old catalogs from years ago and I did not know what that stood for; well now I know it was his patents. (if you get the chance the one link from Ebay shows a wonderful picture of an old label that you will enjoy seeing).
Now for the bad news (at least for me) I could find nothing about Ellsworth Ford with such a common last name it was just not in the cards for me; to many graves, along with a census of just to many fords to pick from.
It just goes to show you that you can learn something new everyday and now I will know every time I see his name on those auger bits I will think of him.
