Summary of activity thus far.

- went thru corporate website rep locator = no answer

- found 3 possibilities on facebook which seem to be active, messaged all 3 early yesterday, texted 2 where their picture has their phone # on the truck.

....Crickets......

I want to order a JR-401 ratchet (long handle industrial finish)...I realize I'm a small fish but I'm also going to pay in full up-front.

My only other good idea was to try to traffic more frequently by the Ford & Chevy dealers & see if I can run them down in person, ask in the service dept if they have a business card, possibly ask in at a local tire & alignment shop which is more of a mom & pop operation. Part of my problem is I work away from the area where I work and am not always around during std business hours.

Any other good ideas?

Are you really set on that particular ratchet? Because I'd say give the competition a call. My local snap on driver has occasionally even responded to me on weekends and has always been very easy to reach. My Mac people are even easier and I'm just a Hobbyist. So I think it all just comes down to how good they customer service is.

If I wanted a Cornwell ratchet, and no one would take my money, I wouldn't want a Cornwell ratchet anymore.

Junkyards are where I see tool trucks. That's where I meet my driver most of the time. Yes, I have seen a cornwell truck @ a junkyard.

Do it the old school way.

Write a note. Tie it to a rock. Throw it through his window.

I think the JR-401 ratchet is well worth the effort to find. Cornwell ratchets have always had the super ergonomic solid steel handle that's super comfortable to hold and the ratchet head is one very smooth operator. Cornwell sells their tools the old fashion way; from person to person.

That's way too much effort expended during a pandemic/period of high unemployment. And I like Cornwell tools.

Lots of folks with high-quality ratchets to sell want your hard-earned money right now.

Seems like they are missing one half of that equation.

In 2020, there is literally zero reason not to have the ability to sell online. None. Having to go on a scavenger hunt to find a guy who might or might not sell you one, and who might or might not go bankrupt next Tuesday is not "old fashioned," its ridiculous.

It is a common complaint from Snap On dealers, that the web sales are the corporation competing with them, but of course not many will go out of their way for John Q Public who wants a 10mm socket................

^ Too much effort just to call the 1-800 number?

1) He went to their website, used their dealer locator, and came up with nothing.
2) If you call just about any company of more than 5 people these days and ask a question, they almost always look at their own website for the answer.

Which brings us back to #1...

I understand....but you can't have it both ways. If the truck guy wants the business, he needs to get off his *** and earn it.

In all reality, the folks who are buying them from the trucks are going to keep buying them from the trucks...and those who aren't, won't. The tool truck itself is an outdated, cumbersome business model that persists only because of high interest lines of credit and gullible techs.

They already have the ability. Their web catalog is quite thorough.
Maybe in time they will.
But for now, they sell through distributors who own a territory by means of a franchise.
They protect this arrangement by not selling online.
Financing also presents new challenges in a webstore.

They protect what arrangement? They have so few trucks on the roads, they might as well have none. Every single person I know whose bought from the Cornwell guy-o-the month has been pissed when he never returns, or a new guy has taken over, or they refuse the warranty their stuff...

Snap-On is the only one who seems to make the decrepit sales model work, and just barely.

It's easy enough to set up a system that pays the dealer a commission on anything shipped into their "territory". In fact, it was easy to do a decade ago — today it would be child's play.

True. But commission from a sale doesnt replace clientele walking on your truck.

It’s good. You have to make an account first otherwise you will have to go back and select everything you had selected I learned that the hard way lol. I haven’t had any issues I have only ordered a few things from them the shipping is what kills you not the tool prices. Haven’t ever had an issue and shipping times are quick.

I have more questions than answers.
Being a weekend and not knowing what time you tried contacting them on Friday I wouldn't get too wound up. These guys deserve time off like everyone else. Small businesses have a hard time being open 24/7/365.

Hunting season here as well.

If it's this hard to buy the tool just think how much harder it will be warranty it when it breaks. I've gotten rid of almost all my ******** tools and will never buy anything from them again....which with no tool trucks is easy.

That's really amazing. You're the only person who has figured out how to order tools from the Cornwell website.

Really? Lol it’s simple just go on add the items to your cart and checkout enter your card or PayPal info and boom you’re done. I think on orders over a certain amount their is free shipping. I believe you can order over the phone too if you were looking to buy some but don’t have a dealer. It very well could be that where I work for a business I was able to create an account and everything because it was on their WiFi and everything I know we don’t have a truck but it seems I remember talking to someone on the phone about it and they sent me a link to sign up that’s for professionals in the industry.

Sorry I stepped away for a bit, would actually like to find the person and see if I can do business with them. If you haven't used one of their ratchets you should try it. I have a few already, acquired from ebay and person-to-person sales.

The JR-401 is an industrial finish XL handle, 3/8" square. Not a very common tool.

I'll call the 1-800 # tomorrow and see if they can get me in touch. I'm not really cheesed off at all but it does seem like there would be an easier way to connect.

I'd think this to be an easy way to help both dealer and the main company as it could expand sales for both, burn less carbon from blasting all around the county in a medium duty truck. :dunno:

I guess I’m missing something... I got excited when I read that you could order Cornwell tools online. I created account, logged in, thought I was getting somewhere when it said my dealer was Cornwell US postmaster. I don’t see any way to add tools to a cart, or checkout.

i think this is funny. people are telling this guy it is a waste of time to get a cornwell tool. yet at the same time people are always trying to get some brand of german, european or made in japan tool. nope. that is "cool" to do that .

no doubt. cornwall should be easier and cheaper to get but some of that can be said for most any brand.
