Well, I just Purchased a HYPER SureStart to try to get my 2.5ton AC unit to start using my 7000/12000watt Generator.

I figured I would show the Kit and what it looks like.
I will show the hook-up and running and let everyone know the results.

I am hopeing for a 40% decrease in Power Draw/InRush on start-up.

Now for the Pic's

OH NO.... Tamper proof Seal will Void Warranty

**UPDATE**
Well, I installed the SURESTART in the 2.5Ton unit on the HIGH Compressor.
(High Compressor LRA 64..Low Compressor LRA 40 w/ hard start kits)
A tight fit due to me not removing the CAPs until I find out if this works.
Fluke was having a hard time catching the INRUSH due to a small surge then a large one. It always showed around 8 Amps..Only getting the first rush.
I finally figured out how to get it by resetting Fluke as I heard the 1st rush.
The INRUSH was 30-32Amps - changed slightly between starts.

I did get a few pics of the Max Amps 32 and Running Amps 11

So, All in All a great test for HYPER ENGINEERING SURESTART.

The High Compressor went from 64Amps LRA to 32Amps LRA.
50% reduction in INRUSH AMPs...

Just purchased another SURESTART off of EBAY for $140 to put on the Low Compressor.

Cool, let us know how it works.
Note, I have 2 ton ductless units - I don't know what they pull at peak start up, but I had them on 15A breakers for a while (specs say 20A) - they did just fine. I'm surprised a 7000/12000 generator is having trouble with a 2.5 T.

Well, the INRUSH for my 2.5ton is 40 Amps for the low and 64 Amps for the high Compressor.
This does not include the Fan on the evap. which starts at the same time.

Hmmm

I have a Fluke 381 and never had a problem measuring inrush current like you did.

I assume you pushed the inrush button before starting the compressor

My 3ton has an 89a inrush.

Cool, good work. I'll be following also. I install soft starts on elevators all the time, never thought to use one at home for these purposes.

Ya was weird..So it has been reading correctly the rest of the time.
It was on the First start up I had the weirdness..then on second I did the reset button thing..after that it just worked correctly.
Not Sure if on the first start the SURESTART was just doing wierd stuff to figuring out the best way to get the compressor going or what.

@cstmg8 Yup I am doing it so the Portable Generator can run 1 AC unit in the House.
For over $100 off for these Brand New Units (EBAY) I went for it...
