Looking for a way to store/display all my car magazines in the garage for easy access to read. Something that doesn't take up too much floor space. Just curious if anyone has magazines in their garage?

No magazines in the garage, just Chilton and Haynes shop manuals.

As far as a rack for magazines, something like what retail stores use to tie in magazines to specific areas would work. They are usually only 4" deep and could be attached to the wall or a cabinet. The local Walmart, Shopko, and Home Depot all have racks displaying magazines on endcaps. You might build your own based off of thier design or see if they have an old one you could buy from them.

Depends on how many magazines you have...there are cardboard magazine storage boxes available that will hold 20 or 30 magazines with the spines visible. Fit onto normal shelving...

How about one of those metal racks that mount to the wall and they're typically in service garages where they put the repair orders.

I use plastic magazine file holders for my mags. Be carefull though--they are NOT all created equal! Some of them on the market have a nice square "mesh" design on the sides--they look good, but when you slide a mag in, the open squares catch the pages and rip them up.

As for storing in the shop, I've got a set of shelves in the basement dedicated to mags, because I used to work for mags and have a TON of them.

Out in the shop for books and reference material, I've got a Steel Case office shelf unit with home-made Plexiglass doors on it. Keeps the books dust free, which is actually a much bigger deal than you'd think. It's amazing how much grime will accumulate in a shop on shelves and books and such in a year's time, let alone several years.

For "keeper" magazine articles that you'd want to refer back to in years to come, I have a great system: I photo copy the stories I want to keep, then put them in a 3-hole binder, organized by categories: Induction, Brakes, Engine, Wiring, Transmission, Interior, Bodywork, Nailhead, 409, Hemi, etc. That way I can quickly refer to the stories I need without having to thumb through 10 years of magazines looking for a particular fact.

And if you're not overly sentimental about the mags, you can throw away the original and save a ton of space in your shop!

I have a magazine addiction, over 20 subscriptions. I could spend 24/7 reading them all.

Here's my system. I leaf through the magazine and tear out what interests me. I keep a stapler handy for the multi page articles. Then I simply put them into a specific manilla folder, such as:
To read & toss.
Moto how to tech
Auto how to tech
PC tech
Home how to's
Great designs
etc, etc...

and by project folders, such as:
Samurai Project.
Motorcycle Project.
Shop project
Home projects.
Fab ideas
etc, etc...

I tried to hold on the every magazine I could, but after a few years, I was just overwhelmed. This way, all the good stuff is in one file cabinet.

BUT! I don't toss my magazines, I give them away. If I go thru a 4x4 or moto magazine and tear out what applies to me, that leaves 90% of the mag. So I pass them around!

After years of hanging on to every magazine, I wound up with "boxes" of them! Then they wound up in storage. Not the best way to keep them.

Now, whenever I get a new magazine I read it through thoroughly (usually in my favorite "reading room" near the toilet paper) and then take out the articles that I feel are relevent and worth saving for my "projects" and throw away the rest of the mag' if no one wants it. The articles that I save are archived away for future benefit. Some of those "how-to" articles are just as important to me as the Chilton's!

I would like to one day have an office in my shop where I could keep an automotive library that would contain such articles, as well as repair manuals.

Also I have saved some of the car pics from the magazines and I plan to put them into picture frames to be placed around the walls of the shop. Some of those pics are of "funny cars" and FX cars of the 60's.

Do people still read magazines? We quit the newspaper and all our magazine subscriptions have been phased out since we got the wireless router and a laptop.

There are still a couple magazines that I get - Fine Homebuilding and the Toyota Land Cruiser Association's Toyota Trails. I get most of my information from the net, but there is still just something about sitting down with a magazine or a book. Occasionally I'll pick up a specific magazine at the bookstore.

I've got a number of copier paper boxes full of old Street Rodder magazines and such. I've been thinking about going through them and scanning the articles I want to keep and turning them into pdf files, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

I do the tearing out part, but have them all in one big box currently. Planning to scan/PDF them like PAToy.

Our car club gathered up all our car mags and sent them overseas to the troops. Sure beats having them collecting dust around the house/garage!
