A quick search did not reveal any prior reports of the Dust Deputy for use with a typical shop vac. I bought one recently and am pleased to report it seems to work as advertised. I bought the $99 kit - it includes the cyclone, lid, two buckets, 2" hose and some bits that one could use to attach the unit to the vacuum. The $59 kit is just the cyclone (& I believe the lid the cyclone bolts to). If you have some empty 5 gallon plastic buckets (like the kind drywall compound or paint comes in) and extra vacuum hose that kit would likely be all you'd need.

I've used it with my mitre saw, radial arm saw and bead blast cabinet. The cyclone is translucent and you can see the saw dust, etc being spun around and seperating out to fall into the bucket. Very little actually goes to the shop vac thus the vacuum filter stays clean and the vacuum 'power' remains strong.

I saw one of those....then I saw the price. I kept walking. I figured for the price, I might try to build one myself first. Maybe buy it get some dimensions and specifics and then return it. Its not that hard to cut some sheet metal and roll it up, pop a few rivets in it and bolt it to a bucket.

glad to hear it works though. I might have to move that up my list of to-dos
