SAC= Spousal Avoidance Chamber. Saw that over on the Jalopy Journal
and that would pretty much be the wifes description. I built this place ten
years ago and its still a work in progress. During the initial planning for this
one acre lot the criteria I gave my wife was, "however big the house is,that's
how big the garage is going to be". House came in at a tick over 2,000 sq.ft. and the "shop" at 35x60(2100 sq.ft.)
. During planning an engineer friend
was working on a plant to manufacture aac block and they wanted to get
some structures up before the plant was in operation so I signed on to be
a demo. Killer deal but added another six months to the build time. A little
info on aac here http://www.safecrete.com/
Basically like concrete block only solid and lighter (plus it floats). Used 10"
thick blocks on the shop.
Ok, on to to shop itself. Originally agreed to give my wife 20' of the garage
for her truck freight brokerage but her business had outgrown it before the
building was finished so that part reverted to manspace. Garage itself is
more like 35x40. Installed a Precision Epoxy floor that has held up to much
abuse and still looks good. When I found the Garage Journal this year and
saw some of the copper air line installs it got me motivated to finally run air
around the shop. Overkill to some extent, but flexible enough for anything
in the future. Glad I did it when I did as the price of copper has more than
doubled. One of the better features is the loft space over the manspace.
Garage has 12' ceiling and manspace 8' so I ended up with approx. 20x35
loft only 3'8" high but has already swallowed up a lot of parts. Think I'll
just post a couple pics here and link to the rest.
