SAC= Spousal Avoidance Chamber. Saw that over on the Jalopy Journal
and that would pretty much be the wifes description. I built this place ten
years ago and its still a work in progress. During the initial planning for this
one acre lot the criteria I gave my wife was, "however big the house is,that's
how big the garage is going to be". House came in at a tick over 2,000 sq.ft. and the "shop" at 35x60(2100 sq.ft.):) . During planning an engineer friend
was working on a plant to manufacture aac block and they wanted to get
some structures up before the plant was in operation so I signed on to be
a demo. Killer deal but added another six months to the build time. A little
info on aac here http://www.safecrete.com/
Basically like concrete block only solid and lighter (plus it floats). Used 10"
thick blocks on the shop.

Ok, on to to shop itself. Originally agreed to give my wife 20' of the garage
for her truck freight brokerage but her business had outgrown it before the
building was finished so that part reverted to manspace. Garage itself is
more like 35x40. Installed a Precision Epoxy floor that has held up to much
abuse and still looks good. When I found the Garage Journal this year and
saw some of the copper air line installs it got me motivated to finally run air
around the shop. Overkill to some extent, but flexible enough for anything
in the future. Glad I did it when I did as the price of copper has more than
doubled. One of the better features is the loft space over the manspace.
Garage has 12' ceiling and manspace 8' so I ended up with approx. 20x35
loft only 3'8" high but has already swallowed up a lot of parts. Think I'll
just post a couple pics here and link to the rest.

Sweet shop. Way big, too, which is always helpful. Am I crazy or have we seen the outside of this garage over a year ago? Seems familiar.

Did you polish the copper?
What brand of filter/regulator?

Nice setup. Always bums me out to hear of so many negative spouses. I can't keep my wife out of the shop.

bmwpower,
1: Yep, your crazy. Wasn't my shop you saw, these pics are only a couple
weeks old and first exterior pics I've uploaded.

2: Yep,I'm busted. In my defense though most all those lines were built on
the bench then mocked in position to minimize sweating joints against the
wall. By the time they were ready to install they had been handled so much
they were looking pretty bad. So yes,I ran some polish over them(Only on
the sides facing out) and spent a little more time on the parts that would
end up at eye level. From here on out they will be allowed to weather
gracefully,no more polishing pipes for me.:lol_hitti

3: Norgren filter and Wilkerson regulator, both in 3/4". Not much to tell here,
already had the Motorguard toilet paper drier deal for the blast cabinet,
filter and drier I just got from McMaster-Carr online knowing they will handle
10 times the flow my compressor will put out. I just liked the easily settable
dial on the regulator and the aluminum watertrap on the filter. It regulates
the whole airline system and so far works fine. Wife bought me the
Craftsman compressor for Christmas after we moved in(she's a keeper)
wouldn't have been my first choice but has hung in there for almost 10 years.
Aluminum 2 stage compressor and a 5 horse motor thats not 5 hp,
12 cfm @ 100 psi, still recovers OK and pumps up to 160psi.

Not like that, she's just got a good sense of humor. She doesn't spent
a lot of time out here, but checks on me regularly to make sure I'm still
alive and uses the intercom a lot.:)

The wife or the compressor? Sorry, had to read that twice. Made me laugh.

Nice place for sure!

Nice setup. Wish I'd bought copper for my airlines when you ran yours. Now I think I am going to go with the garagepak setup, it's cheaper than copper now....these metal prices are nuts. Priced a 48" x 22" sheet of 1/4" steel for a welding table I am building today...over $75....

:wtf: When I bought the copper in April 06 the 10' piece of 3/4" type L was
$16.32 ea. I looked a couple weeks ago and it was over $36. I too looked at
the garage-pak system a year or two ago and couldn't get past the $ at
that time. But now after installing the copper if I had to do it again I'd go
with the Garage-pak. At the current prices its probably cheaper and a much
quicker install. I had (fun?) with the copper but ended up with 2 months in it
because I just had too many other things going on and didn't stay with it.
When I get a chance I'll total up what I had in material and post it here.

Nice s.a.c...Great arrangement you made for the garage. Our master bedroom is over the garage so when I got a third bay, she got a master suite!

I see you also keep a 1/10 scale shop. What all do you have??

When your ready for a 4th bay she can have a deck.:lol_hitti
1/10 scale shop is a twenty year collection starting with a Tamiya Fox and
followed with Associated,Kyosho,Losi,Traxxas buggies and trucks. Current
ones are the Associated B4,T4, and GT team kits. Not really pursuing at
the moment, didn't even finish the State Series this year and thats all I've
really ran for the last 6 years. I was a treasurer for West Coast RC Club
back when we put on the Winter Champs and was the biggest off-road
racein the east. Always had fun and managed a region championship in
93 and won the state series gas truck class in 03. Now I'm happy to make
the A-main and finish top ten in the state series. The adrenalin rush is
close to any full scale racing I've done. Good stuff.
Wadda you run?

Ok that’s a fair excuse for not doing your home work, but the class expects a full report with photo graphic highlights.
