I got a drill press a month or two ago, It came with the standard smaller table. I would like to either make or buy a larger table for it, (preferably the larger table would be made of metal). I have saw a few wood tables out there....just wondering if any of you guys have made one out of metal?
If I build one I have a rough idea of how Im going to go about it....just thought you guys may have built one with some ideas I haven't thought of.

When I had a bench mounted drill press (I later switched to a floor model) I used a pedestal from an old metal office desk. I fabricated a top and some proper legs for it but the reason I like it was because it gave me 3 drawers for storing drill bits and related tools and jigs.

Hi,

I can give you a shop tip: I went to a machine shop a had the owner make me a square steel plate. I had him put about six dovetail groves running vertical about 4inches apart.

Why dovetail:you can then mount any kind of vise with hold down clamps.

Bolt this to the table and in effect you now will have a mill table.

Hope this helps.

you can find all size t-slot tables and used drill press parts on e-bay made just for your application with hardened steel. Also, search 'lathe face plate' and cover center hole with your own peice of steel if necessary.

Do you happen to mean T-slots? I don't see how dovetails would let you hold it down unless your vise was also dovetailed.

You might check out HF or Grizzly DP's and see if they've got anything that would work.

This guy on OWWM bought a production table from on HF's big press for $38 and custom fit it on top of the 11" table on his Delta.
