Newbie here with a few questions, does anyone know who supplies snap on with there butcher block tops? One more question, I just bought a krl761 box from the mid 1990's and noticed that it does not have the lock n roll latch system and I was just wondering if it is supossed to or does it just use the locks to keep the drawers in place? Just as a side note my krl763 does have the lock n roll system thats why I think it is weird that the 761 is with out the system.

Dont waste your money on an edge-grain butcherblock. Go for end-grain.

Unless you are cutting on top of your tool box, end grain is a waste of money. You use end grain on cutting boards to protect the knife edge.

I agree.

I like my toolbox top to able to withstand whatever I throw at it. Occasionally I throw knives.
I use end-grain to protect anything that has an edge.

Well then that is a perfectly acceptable use of endgrain. Though throwing knives at toolboxes doesn't sound very safe...lol

It's supposed to have Lock 'n Roll yes. You can order them from the Snap-on parts catalog.

If you are in SoCal would you be interested in a SS Top?

I went and took a picture of the butcher block I put in for my wife in our basement laundry room. If you go to the store and buy one make sure you open the box before you get home and make sure it is not warped. Some are. If it hasn't warped yet it shouldn't as long as you don't store it outside before polying it. Also if you poly it make sure you do all sides or it will warp. I did this about 2 years ago. I think from Ikea it was about $100. You may need to cut it to size as well.

An alternate reality in a parallel universe.
I contacted Kennedy many years ago about their butcher block tops since I had one I bought for a side cabinet I wasn't using and thought it would work great in the kitchen. They did confirm for me that they were made with food grade coating on them, so you can use them in the kitchen, so that confirmed for me that they use a cutting board manufacture as a vendor.

I would suspect that is is manufactured by either John Boos & Co. or Michigan Maple who are two of the biggest in the food industry. Also if you plan on doing cutting of food on it DO NOT use poly on it!

Im not 100 % but better check with the snap on dealers ... I had one of those for a krl1001 and wanted to cut it down to fit an older mac box..if my memory serves i think there are steel rods inside of the top to help it withstand the abuse . Not 100 % sure ....but better check which would stand to reason why they are so damn expensive...and also way better then the ones at ikea...

Yes it is SS formed over IIRC wood composite. The seams are welded and finished nicely. Not sure how practical they are, but they sure are purdy.
