cheap fix for faded Fluke LCD display

there's a cheap Fluke 88 meter on CL, only $75 with the case and bunch of leads, problem was the LCD is faded. so I took the chance just bought it.

I did a little research before I went, seems it's pretty common among some models. also there's a youtube video showing an easy fix by just cleaning the contacts.

guess what... after 3 minutes, it worked just as described.

Really good post, and also a reminder that even "black boxes" have simple mechanical things that can go wrong and be fixed!
I use analog meters generally, and my good one is a WWII model in a steel opening shell that is probably bulletproof...
Here's my "Faded Display" tip for analog meters: Often the widow over the needle is plastic, rendered nearly opaque by years of scratches, dirt, and overspray from decades of slob owners and Government Issue tech use. Hobby shops sell packets of super-fine sanpaper in multiple grades, grits starting about where most sandpaper leaves off and going into the thousands. Sand your lens with the coarsest one until generally smooth, then move up the numerical scale of grits. You will soon reach a grit whose scratches are essentially invisible and your plastic lens will again be clear.

The display on my meter was a lot worse than that, The Mac tools dealer showed mwe that about 10 years ago .
