i discovered one of my old black snap on screwdrivers is oozing and stinky smelling. has not cracked yet but, what do i do with it?

do i hand it to my snap on dealer and tell him to replace it or what? i have a ton more of these that are not oozing yet but i imagine some will sooner or later

just tell him it is one of the old style that will eventually turn to a pile of rubble in the drawer. if he says no then use the holy living hell out of it until it breaks apart....

what if he refuses because its not actually broken yet? does he replace just the handle or both the blade and handle?

My dealer replaced a whole drawer full for a friend of mine. He said Snap-On acknowledges the problem, and will (did) warranty the handles. It actually ruined his screwdriver drawer....

early style 4 sided black screwdrivers (the ones that so many of the budget screwdriver brands copy)

That's what he did for my friend, Replaced them all. Some had melted into puddles just like someone heated them up. They were all the same era of handles, and I'm remembering that 1 or 2 he couldn't get handles for them so he replaced the whole thing. He did use the newer (soft) handles before anybody asks.....

that would be your best bet. go straight to him and show him what all you have. he might tell you to wait and see what happens to the rest of them. or he may just do some swapping out and get it all over with at once. his discretion.

its a normal screwdriver with a oily look like it was dropped in a bucket of oil but it smells like vinegar or somthing of that nature.

i gotta make a special visit to the shop to see my dealer because he comes at a really stupid time and date. he gave me a used socket to replace a broken one of mine. i was not exactly thrilled about that...

Here's a few oozing pics:

This one is not too bad:

This one is at it's oozing peak I hope, notice how it is disintegrating the tray next to it.

Here are some that need replaced, what's interesting is the amount that they shrink. You can always tell by the space between the bolster on the shank and the bottom of the handle.:

i pretty much have all those same screwdrivers.

what if my dealer has absolutely no background knowledge about this screwdriver problem and says what are you talking about? how do i convince him? i was thinking about printing this thread out and bringing it to him as a backup plan.

I don't see what it matters if he is aware or has "background knowledge"? If the drivers are broken or obviously have a defect he should replace them. Why wouldn't he? Also why not just send them into SO for warranty replacement?

Well I cant fault him for that. You are asking a lot by not buying anything from your rep and at the same time asking him to warranty tools not bought through him. Why not buy something off the truck you need and at the same time ask for the warranty? Or if your dead set against buying new SO off the truck why not just send the drivers into SO for repair/replacement?

Email Snap-on, get a pre-paid UPS label, mail them into Snap-on. You have admitted that you keep bringing him garage sale stuff to warranty. You have previously admitted abusing your dealers loaner air tools and you wonder why your dealer does not go out of his way to help you. :headscrat

Yikes that's not cool at all!

@fordbrocodave......I know your a kid, hopefully when you get a little older you will understand how important morals and respecting other peoples lively hoods are. Your rep makes his living selling and servicing tools for paying customers. When your outright abusing tools the poor guy lent you and then trying to get something else warrantied that you didn't buy from him...well that's just not right. Anyone, (even a kid like you) should know that.

@chadster, if I'm not mistaken aren't SO tools technically only warrantied for the life of the tool for THE ORIGINAL PURCHASER? I know you guys go out of your way and warrenty stuff all the time when you really dont have to (for faithful return customers). But technically is what fordbrocodave is trying to accomplish against the SO warranty agreement? :headscrat

there is kind of a story behind abusing the loaner air tools. he really ripped my dad off once with a welder. my dad did more abusing to the air ratchet then myself but thats just him. of course he was gonna be pissed his 2 month old $400 3/8" air ratchet crapped on him.

i rarely see my dealer so usually we are on good terms when we see eachother. i do try buying somthing from him once in a while but how can i buy somthing if he isn't there or around.

Did you ever stop to think that there might be a reason that he shows up at your shop when you are not there?

My Snap On dealer has a sign when you walk onto his truck that says "If you do not support me I can not support you" Just because of the people that bring him stuff from garbage sale.
