Here's the pliers I picked up today, don't know a whole lot about them other than they are cool (there for making me cool). Anyhow, how they work is you spread the handles apart and then the "loose" jaw moves freely and you can move it to about where you want it. Then clamp down with really good force and loosen/tighten nuts/bolts, I tried it on a tight bolt and it works quite well, stick that in you pipe and smoke it Knipex.

I spotted those in your other thread.....I will be jealous of that haul for quite some time. Those pliers are neat, I haven't saw anything like them before.

I have 3 pair of Eiffel Pliers like that. They have 4 or 5 different jaws that slide in (round, pipe, v-notch, square with angled grooves for bending wire, and a different lengths for bigger sizes.

Ah, the knipex are nothing new! Most things are just regenerated old ideas. I do like the Knipex plier wrench though. Great old pliers there.

I have had a few Eifel plierwrenches. Look exactly like that, yours must be a little newer. They ****, any torque on a fastener and the jaw spreads and they do not work well as a plier either. The wire cutter works ok though. They are older tools, mostly pre-1950's

FWIW, I've a bag full of jaws which are probably for an Eifel. I'd like to get them to a good home.

1. How can we determine what they fit?
2. What would they be worth?

thnx, jack vines

When I saw those pliers in your original post (awesome score, btw), it made me think of these:

Never knew about the Vaco or the Eifel pliers. Wonder who made which first? Either way, awesome score and hopefully others with similar pliers will post up.

Who made Vaco tools?

Not sure if they made their own stuff or not, never knew them for any tools other than crimpers and nut and screw drivers. I have quite a bit of Vaco stuff, but their best things are their long nut drivers hollow, their long nut drivers with magnets and their best is the reversible screwdriver, with that thing and one extra blade you could almost throw away all of your screwdrivers. I was looking for one to take a picture but couldn't find it, ran across this Vaco stuff (You'll notice those nut drivers have no knurling......yet):

Ran across an Eifel Plierench, patent date is way back in 1916, don't know the age of these but they have an added feature, the tip of one of the handles is a screwdriver.

And what might be the largest collection of plierench pliers wrenches in a privately held collection:

The knipex execution is different and excellent. Evaluating the 2 designs as pliers, the different jaws of the Eifel not withstanding; the Knipex Plierwrench far surpasses the Eiffel.

Says you, without actually owning both sets and trying both it would be speculation on your part. But yeah, the Knipex are nicer, but without the Eifel Plierench would there even be a Knipex version?

Without getting too involved in this conversation..... I have a beautiful Eifel geared plier wrench.... it's gorgeous. .... yeah, my life's pretty pathetic if a tool is a best thing around (OK... don't even go there).
Anyhow, most persons wrenches read "6 dollars" on them, mine reads "5 dollars." Does anyone know more history about this wrench?
cheers,
bird

I know this is an old thread, but I just realized I have my fathers 8 1/2" plier wrench kit. It has about 5-6 jaws and one is for cutting small copper tubing. I've never paid much attention to it but have memories of seeing it back in the early 50's. Never did ever see dad use it, I never have. This one is made by American Plier Wrench Co, Chicago. The things you learn from reading these threads.

One of the best features of this pliers, is that the loose jaw can be reversed, and used in an opening instead of closing action.
