Goodbye to Craftsman Club

I received a letter in the mail the other day stating that the club was going away. It was going to be absorbed by the Blue team or whatever it is that Sears uses. I find it ironic because Sears just revamped their Craftsman club program just a few months ago. Not to be chicken little but this to me is a sign of impending doom for the Craftsman brand and Sears split.

When I think Craftsman, I think Sears. Only place local for me, and yet still 45 minutes from home, that has a very large assortment of tools. Kind of sad to see them separate if that is what happens.

Where else can someone go to buy tools and not from a tool truck? Home Depot, Lowes? They don't have near as much tools as Sears does handtool wise.

I still like my craftsman.

Got a new Club card a few weeks ago, and a new Blue Sears card to replace the Club Card on Saturday. I kinda liked having a special CMAN card over the generic blue card.

But if they send me coupons like Borders Rewards does, then I will be more than happy.

There was a PR announcement a week or two ago that select Ace Hardware stores will start carrying Craftsman tools, with the eventual goal of carrying Craftsman nationwide. Check ToolGuyd.

They're still playing games on the website. Got the latest catalog last weekend, and there are several brands in there besides C-man. Trouble is, the website only recognizes Craftsman part numbers Tried to buy an SK socket set that was listed as an "Online Exclusive." Number doesn't come up. Tried some other non C-man numbers, they didn't come up either. Called the 800#, was told I could only order the SK over the phone. No explanation was given.

Might be something to this as Elroy has it from a reliable source that Sears is cutting their association with the standard Danaher line and going to Gearwrench.

Remember you heard it first from Elroy :see:

Plan on Sears pulling some kind of move like this.

Makes sense, they pretty much forced Pratt Read into bankruptcy. Hate to say it but I have to agree with other members now.....they really have been going down the crapper for the last few years. :(

I think there is no stopping the inevitable anymore. :wtf:

I got one of those (I signed up for it online a few weeks ago). I get the CC emails, and mailings all the time. I haven't received anything in my mailbox about CC dissolving yet. When I do get the offical word, a small part of me will be sad.

I guess its time for me to jump off the sinking ship and start buying 100% from Snapon.

your craftsman points carry over to the new card they just merged all kmart holdings onto one rewards cards so if you got to any kmart holding you can use the rewards card then later use the points toward c-man tools, its not the end of the world actually its better because you can rack up more points

If Craftsman does leave Sears, I hope another national chain like Lowe's or Home Depot starts carrying Cman tools with the same warranty. The tool department at ACE would only be an isle, or a tool card behind the counter, Lowes or home depot would have the space needed to carry a good selection of tools. I really miss my local Sears Hardware that closed when they merged with K-Mart.

Maybe Horror Fright could start selling C-man tools. :scared:

I still have 1 Sears hardware by me, maybe 2. They have all the goodies but oddly enough the tools there are more expensive then the ones at Sears/Kmart and the Craftsman catalog. I'm not sure why seeing it's all from the same company but thats the way it is.

I don't think the points carry over, in the letter I got said something that a voucher would be sent for any outstanding craftsman points.

lowes already sells danaher stuff under the kobalt name. the roto ratchets and thumb ratchets are the same as gearwrench. all made by danaher.

What exactly is the standard Danaher line? Danaher makes so many different tools too include Gearwrench what's the diffeerence other than where it's made?:headscrat
If Sears goes to Gearwrench they wouldn't be the only one. Fastenal hawks Gearwrench now, and many online vedors such as Tooltopia have reduced the open stock SK inventory in favor of Gearwrench.
I think the demise of the Craftsman club has less to do with the Craftsman brand and more to do with Sears just consolidating their rewards programs and really reducing the discounts from the old days when you could count on getting at least 10% off of everything Craftsman to a mere 1% return on purchases. The Craftsman Club had really run its course though. I mean over the last couple of years the same items were always on sale. Just how many sets of impact sockets are you going to buy even at half price?

I noticed this when i went to sears, and was hopeing to get a discount, all all they told me was i had to go set up som account on sears and enter a number to get points back, and that my dads CC card wasnt going to give me a discount anymore.
