More cleaning/dismantling this morning. Pics later. Had a minor panic as I was taking it apart in the backyard & dropped a bushing down a gopher hole... Luckily I could see it & managed to get it with the ovary snatcher.

Here's an extra use for a power hacksaw...pest control!
Many years ago, there was a little repair garage in town with a '32 Ford, visible from the street, parked in a back corner. Naturally, this drew in endless time-wasting yakkers and people who thought they might pick up a deuce for $50...
People like me, in fact.
The ancient, stone deaf curmudgeon who ran the place had a solution...as soon as an idiot wandered in to discuss his car, he popped an old piece of water pipe under the worn-out, completely toothless blade of his power hacksaw. The resulting dragging squeal was so painful to all except a deaf old man that interlopers were forced to flee.
After my retreat, I noticed that the saw was often running even with no one in there as a preventative measure.

During the cleraning I've blasted off at least 5 different shades of gray, the most recent looks to be Pratt & Whitney radial engine gray.. which is consistant with where I rescued it from.
I also noticed the "SAWMASTER" part was originally red, so I'll use red on that (& the other parts that were originally red). I also decided to paint the pulley red instead of gray, but the rest will be gray.

ok, I'm done for today. Sometime in the past someone has welded a couple of welding rods between the legs. I'm going to grind off the remnants of them before I paint those 2 parts. Looks like I'll need some new wheels, but that's not exactly a big deal.

Notice that the plastic media blasted the paint off the parts, but only cleaned the data plate :)

The more I think about those knackered wheels the more I realise that a custom built roll-around stand needs to be welded up with some better wheels. Therefore I'll fabricate that when I've finished the rest of it & just remove those old wheels.

Also note the main casting was red originally, but it's going to be gray.

Show us the saw when back complete. Don't take too long, I'd forget how to reassemble it if I took very long on the project. Can you still get new saw blades for a model like this?

Yup, it takes standard 12x1in blades :)

Someone else mentioned that the red on the main casting may be red oxide paint....

Anywho, I'll be back at it shortly.... Not much blasting/cleaning to do today. Going to start with grinding those welded doohickies off the legs & then remove the wheels.

Thats not the way to finnish off a nice restoration.....

ZRX you dont waist any time do you, I really enjoyed the pics so far

And why not?

I have some HF casters under my Monarch tooling cabinet. If they are good enough for several hundred pounds of the finest Sydneyium I am sure they will work just fine. They are one of the few things I will buy at HF, they are good quality at a great price.

I had a look today, they were out of them.

I should point out I was actually looking for a different kind to go on the frame I'm going to weld up for it... but I did see an empty bin where they'd had ones similar to the originals at some point.

Spot the mistake:
SawMaster5a004.jpg

Silly ******** here put the pulley on **** about elbow, I'll sort that after the motor etc is on as the method for aligning the pulleys is via an Inertial Adjustment Device (however, not the one in the top right of that pic)

ok, this is where I'm at on Monday...

Yesterday I started to tackle the two sheared screws in the large gear. I beadblasted the clag out of both holes & gave it the ATF/Acetone mix treatment:

SawMaster5b003.jpg

I left that overnight & this morning it had wicked thru to the other side of both holes. I wiped it off, CP'd the screws & fired up the drill press.

Almost as soon as the drill touched the first screw it spun out of the other side of the gear. RESULT!!

Moved to screw #2 & the same thing happened...

So now that issue is taken care of I can screw the cam back onto the large gear & reinstall it... once I find a couple of screws to fit. (1/4-20's)

Cool stuff - we had one of those at college. I spent hours upon hours with that saw doing metal sculpture there so I know it well! Yours is alot nicer looking though :D

Wow, great work Rick, worthy of an A & P I must say!
Now since you've clearly had practice at this and do first rate, quality work, come fly into to my shop and restore my Keller for me. I'll keep the Pepsi machine supplied with all the root beer you can drink. Deal?:dunno:
