My neighbor gave me a front mount snow blade for a Simplicity tractor, but I all ready had one.
Decided to make a grader blade out of it.
Sandblasted off the old paint, and cut the blade into two pieces.

After some cutting,bending & welding....

Finished blade with dual 40 pound weights installed.

You can push down with your feet, on the black rubber pads, for more "bite".

Lift chain.

All hitched up to the 1969 Simplicity 3112H Garden Tractor.

These small blades do a fine job on driveways and other small jobs,
turns your tractor into a mini road grader.
Seen several on E-Bay sell in the $175 to $ 250 range.
Will post later, on what I made out of the other half of the snow blade.

It always amazes me when people come up with great ideas! They turn the most useless(to them) things into the something sweet and meaningful to them :thumbup:

Custom projects like that are ftw :beer:

What did you use to make the rubber pad's on top of the blade? Also i like the weight idea im going to show that to my neighbor he has one like this on his Simplicity.As far as i know his is factory made and look's like what you built.

Its 3/4" rubber sheet that is used for horses to stand on.
I borrowed a factory made Simplicity blade before I built this,
to see how well it would work.
I was quite surprised at how useful it was, so I built one.
Don't think these blades are available from Simplicity any more.
Mine is about 1-1/2" taller than the factory ones, but will still fit on
newer tractors with running boards.

Is the deal off the engine a hydraulic pump or an old school alternator? (Can see in last pic)

Have the mower deck on right now, maybe the next time I use the blade.
Also need to have chains on tires, to really get the most use out of the blade.
Spring is the best time to use this on driveways.
It will roll dirt right over the top of the blade, if you want it to.
Whats really nice is that its right under the tractor, where you can see it,
no twisting around to look in the back. :beer:

Its a Delco starter-generator.
These were OEM equipment on old B&S engines like this.
It is the original, has had new bearings & brushes, not to shabby after
41 years of service.
The regulator is original as well, and has been bullet proof, requiring no
maintenance at all.

I think, gas powered golf carts use something very similar to this.

Yup!, not much reduction I think 3.5 to 4:1 tops.
Whats even more interesting, is after the engine is running at 3600 RPM,
and the generator is spinning at 11-12 grand.
The thing has to be built like a tank, to stand up to the punishment it takes.

Well done. 35 years ago my dad had an Allis-Chalmers Big 10 tractor (built in the same factory as Simplicity tractors, just a different color) and he built a very similar grader blade, I used it many times to grade the driveway and even to push snow in the winter. It also had the same starter/generator unit, that thing would start the tractor in 10 below weather.
